Video: Goalie fight highlights Friday night AHL game

Jan 25, 2014, 1:15 AM EDT

There was a goalie fight Friday night.

Jeff Deslauriers of the American Hockey League’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and John Gibson of the Norfolk Admirals came together at center ice during a stoppage in play, dropping the gloves and blockers in a quick scrap. Not sure exactly why this started, although Gibson, as he was skating back to his net from the bench, skated right into Deslauriers, who wasted no time in getting the fight started.

According to the official game report on the AHL website, Deslauriers received two roughing minors, a fighting major and a game misconduct. Gibson was assessed only a pair of roughing minors.

This goalie fight comes only two days after Marc-Andre Fleury and Peter Budaj were about to fight, when officials quickly broke it up.

    God awful announcer

Those who actually paid attention to the clip heard the announcer describing what was actually happening on and near the ice while the viewers were seeing a clearly marked REPLAY of the tussle. So the announcer was doing his job reasonably well as there was little or no need for him to do the PxP for the REPLAY.

Atleast it’s not Mike O’Brien of the Baby Pens…who is annoying as hell to hear speak on the Penguins Pre-Game show. Kind of ironic how both goalies who fought have as connection to Pittsburgh. For those who don’t know John Gibson is from the Pittsburgh region.

      I didn’t know, and I dont care.

The Admirals backup goalie that is mentioned also has a connection to Pittsburgh. He was the Baby Pens goalie and part time backup for Pittsburgh. Pens fans will remember him as Brad “No glove hand” Thiessen.

Aren’t they both property of Anaheim?

There’s no reason for goalies to fight. They spend all season 200 ft from each other. It’s just dumb.

Generally there’s no reason for you to open your mouth, yet you continue to do it.

      I don’t wanna disappoint.

To me a goalie fight is exciting in the same way midget wrestling is.

Goalie fights are the best. My favorite was Thomas and Price in a bruins and canadiens game. It was awesome!

    that Was definitely not epic

You call that a fight? That was pathetic! For the sake of the game, keep your helmets on and stay in your crease. Save that BS for the bar after the game. That was just dumb!
