Video: Did Backes catch Kreider’s head with end of his stick?

Jan 23, 2014, 8:21 PM EST

Some observers – particularly covering or rooting for the New York Rangers – believe that St. Louis Blues captain David Backes delivered a blow with the butt-end of his stick to Chris Kreider‘s head.

Here’s video, which may or may not convince you:

Backes didn’t receive a penalty for the hit and Kreider appeared to shake it off.

ESPN’s Katie Strang, New York Newsday’s Steve Zipay and the New York Daily News’ Pat Leonard claim that Backes got away with one there.

I don’t know if Backes did it on purpose, but the slow motion replay is pretty clear. Should have def been a penalty, but I doubt its going to amount to anything else.

wasnt a penalty because Kreider was already on his way down. Backes was just finishing his check and he really couldnt pull up in time as Kreider was on his way down. And im a rangers fan

Finishing the check wouldn’t be a problem….but the question is about Backes hitting him in the face with the butt end of his stick.

Mr. Backes, There is a Mr. Shannahammer on line one for you.

Stakex That would be the same stick that a player must have control over at all times. Butt ending is serious and should be dealt with in the same manner.
Way worse than what James Kneeall did to that turkey Brad the rat Marchand.
