Blue Jackets win eighth in a row in franchise’s 1,000th game

It’s not outrageous to say that the Columbus Blue Jackets are at their all-time peak in the franchise’s 1,000th game. They extended their franchise record winning streak to eight games in an impressive 5-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.

After the win, head coach Todd Richards spoke about “creating an identity,” and they might have found it in the attitude Brandon Dubinsky describes.

“It’s a dogfight. We know what happens when you don’t get enough points,” Dubinsky said. “Relentless is a good word to use right now.”

Sergei Bobrovsky didn’t deny that it meant a little more for him to beat the Flyers, either, as the Columbus Dispatch’s Aaron Portzline reports.

Really, though, the highlight of the night might be Nathan Horton‘s beauty of a goal:

Impressive effort by the Blue Jackets… and equally embarrassing effort by the Flyers. Looks like Columbus could finally win a playoff game this year.

sometime wonder, at what this franchise is doing I rather watch paint dry at some points of our game, the goaltending is the least of this teams worries. The defensive cores is a bunch of 3s and 4s lacking the true #1 dman. Such a shame what father time has turned Kimmo into. At one point tonight, Downie was a -2 with 5;19 TOI, I wonder at time why hes in lineup let alone CHIEF giving him powerplay time. Vinny Lecav is slow and only helps on powerplay, we have some nice forwards to build around but until this D core is fixed will be hard games to watch and we will not be a playoff team let alone a serious contender

This is one of the most honest assessment a fan has posted about his favorite team. Lets hope they can improve the d over the summer.

Flyers fan, living in Columbus. I am a fan of the Jackets as well, but they play 2nd fiddle to the Flyers-have been a Flyers fan for over 35 years. I agree with the comments. Jackets look strong and have a great future. I suspect they will make the playoffs this year but still lack a player or two to get very deep.
The Flyers on the other hand are a disgrace. Luke Schenn is the sorriest excuse for a professional hockey player. How he and Brayden are related really confuses me. Can someone say milkman?? When we picked up Luke, Toronto fans were all talking about how they were glad to see him and his turnovers go. I was excited to get him. He was young, big and playing with his brother would be a benefit to both, right? Wrong. He is beyond shaky. I was at the game last night and watched him fail every time he touched the puck. He adds absolutely nothing to this team and needs to go. This team obviously needs to revamp the defense, but it needs more than that. Unfortunately, it will be another disappointing year. Flyers will either miss the playoffs again, or make it by the skin of their teeth as wildcard and be out in first round.

I rep Columbus because I feel they are one of the “struggling” organizations that could actually have success once they start winning and stop looking like a joke…

Hortons goal was sick! Fans were chanting we want Mason lmao!

Blue Jacket are kind of like the Pittsburgh Pirates. Other fans kind of favor them because they have sucked so long and the future success is iffy, but potentially there.

Fans don’t like the pirate lol

As a CBJ fan, I looked forward to the day other fans hate the CBJ. Then you know you have arrived.

Healthy dose of reality for Flyers fans, myself included. They were thoroughly outplayed, and is it not sad to watch BOB skate off the ice after defeating the team that dealt him. Like all Philly fans, I will not consider Philly a threat until they get a Pronger-like defenseman, although they do not grow on trees. Philly is still feeling the effects of losing Pronger and still having to pay him. I would be giving Gus some playing time, and pair him with Streit and see what happens. Their defense is terrible right now, and might have the worst defensemen in the league.
