Many believe that the starting goalie job for Team Canada comes down to Roberto Luongo, Carey Price and everyone else. That’s with good reason, as Price has been excellent this season, but Wednesday wasn’t kind to the 26-year-old.

The Pittsburgh Penguins chased him about 15 minutes into the second period, scoring five goals on 21 shots to give Price the hook. This is just the second time he’s been pulled this season, with the other occasion coming against the Los Angeles Kings on Dec. 10.

Of course, a goalie isn’t always pulled because the goals are his fault.

Here are all five of them, if you want to determine if it’s more about the Montreal Canadiens’ woes or an off-night for Price:

Jussi Jokinen 8:48 into the first period:

Taylor Pyatt 16:25 into the opening frame:

Jokinen’s second tally:

Sidney Crosby‘s 26th goal of the season:

Evgeni Malkin ends Price’s night:

Funny. Penguins up 5-1 over Canadiens after 2 periods. Everyone that I heard taking about the Penguins today (Not on PHT) made it seem like the sky was falling. Seriously it was one bad game. They lost 5-1 to the Florida Panthers, every team has off nights, and the Penguins are going to lose some games over the course of a 82 game season. By the looks of it tonight they are going to be fine.

That’s what makes the NHL such a great league. With a salary cap floor and ceiling teams are spending within 16 million (I think) of each other. Lots a parity in the league. Sure you teams that are at the top of the class, but even the worst team in the league will end up winning close to 30 games. There might be some bad teams in the NHL, but no team is a guaranteed win.

Up in the press box, healthy scratches, Diaz and Emelin, are undoubtedly looking down on the coach that scratched them and laughing their asses off.

I wish they would have left Fleury whoop Budaj’s ass.
    That would have been priceless

Not sure you want the Flower getting in a tilt with anyone, let alone a grown man. Better he pretend from the other end of the rink. Doesn’t he see the shrink early on Thursdays too?

    • killerpgh - Jan 22, 2014 at 10:03 PM

It’s would have been fun to watch. But rumor is Budaj has martial arts training so as a Pens fan it probably better that the refs didn’t let that happen.

MAF seemed pretty concerned with his hair after he took off his helmet. Not exactly the Eye of the Tiger…

Yeah. That would have been kinda cool to see.

According to Orpik picked 22 minutes in that last scrum. 2 roughing, 10 min misconduct and a game misconduct. I didn’t even see him do anything worth the 2 minute roughing penalty.

refs probably just trying to avoid another thornton incident. prust came kind of close. i don’t see why all the fuss wasn’t even that hard of a hit on gallagher. just prust being a sore loser.

What a horrible game by Markov. He looked as slow as Coburn tonight. Subban also played a horrendous game. Them Penguins were too fast for the d.

Yup, I’d say Price is rounding into Olympic form. 13 goals in his last 3 games. I had no doubt that he’d handle that announcement well. The Habs talent is finally showing itself. Pretty fun when the only goal scorer is the latest ‘run-him-outta-town’ whipping boy. As CM Punk would say, “Best In the World!”

i dont understand the logic in taking carey price to sochi. especially not mike smith.

how crawford and fleury are staying home and smith and price are going is beyond me neither have done a thing in their career.

Bad night for the Habs. I was shocked to see Price give up goals like that but I guess you cant be perfect all the time.
