The Washington Capitals must attempt to end their five-game losing streak without captain and NHL leading goal-scorer Alex Ovechkin on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old is out with a lower-body injury, according to the Washington Post’s Katie Carrera. No further information was provided about how severe the sniper’s ailment is, although head coach Adam Oates described him as “banged up” earlier today.

Ovechkin continues to score whether his team wins or loses, as his 35 goals easily tops all NHL players this season; no one else even has 30 yet. (Joe Pavelski and Corey Perry are tied for second with 27 tallies.)

He’s been left exasperated by his team’s struggles and now he must watch as they play the up-and-down Ottawa Senators tonight.

This might be good for the Caps so they can wake up and realize they have to have secondary scoring. They did it back in November when he was out, now they just have to keep doing it for the rest of the season.

It’s funny how people say crosby is injury prone but ovechkin has missed more games than crosby this year

Yeah it is kind of weird that Crosby has played more games than Ovi, I don’t think that has ever happened since Crosby and Oviechkin entered the NHL. Crosby has played in every game this year for the Penguins knock on wood. Sidney Crosby is injury prone though he missed half a season with an high ankle sprain, he missed a lot of games because of a groin injury, he missed basically 2 seasons because of a concussion, and he missed the last dozen games last year with a broken jaw. Oviechkin on the other hand has missed only 3 games this year. I would definately not call him injury prone.

Go figure. No secondary scoring tonight they were shut out. This teams a joke without Ovi

This team has been a joke in general the past 6 games.
