Two days after adding goalie Ben Scrivens and forward Matt Hendricks in separate trades, the Edmonton Oilers have acquired forwards Steve Pinizzotto and Jack Combs from the Florida Panthers in exchange for forwards Ryan Martindale and Derek Nesbitt.

Of the four AHLers, only Pinizzotto has NHL experience, having played 12 games for the Canucks last season. (We wrote about the gritty 29-year-old here, when he signed with the Panthers in August.)

Martindale is presumably the piece the Panthers coveted most. Still young, Martindale, 22, was drafted 61st overall in 2010.

I think what we are seeing is a desperate Oilers GM trying to shake things up and ultimately trying to keep his job.

      No by trading AHL players.

I have heard nothing about these guys, aside from a couple of their names. Doesn’t sound like this deal will have much impact beyond the AHL affiliates.

Pinizzotto is capable of playing some 4th line minutes. The guy taught me how to play hockey at summer camp when I grew up. Not just saying he’s an NHLer because of that, but I saw him play a few times with the Canucks and he will hit anything that moves and is willing to drop the gloves. Lots of energy, but still don’t see how it will help EDM. Useless move in my opinion.

The “Man of Action”stokes again, with nothing. At least this time he didn’t lose much.
Kevin Lowe and his Kronies have to go.
