PHT Extra: What’s going on with the Canucks?

Jan 16, 2014, 3:51 PM EST

You didn’t think we’d let the Vancouver Canucks get smoked 9-1 without weighing in on them, did you?

How the heck could they lose that bad and Tortorella not have an aneurysm?

The Ducks are the real deal it looks like. Underestimate them at your own peril.

Continue with the thuggery, Torts, and you’ll be looking for a new job next season. Tough to win games defending the power play the majority of the game, no matter how good your PP kill is.

Not to take anything away from the Ducks because they won the game in every category but Lack was pulled after only 3 somewhat unfortunate goals and the third string goalie, thrown to the wolves in his NHL debut against the #1 team, allowed the other 6.
The Canucks are missing Luongo and Burrows. I mean, Lack’s been good but he’s no Luongo.
Then there’s the “Devorski factor” 69 PIM to 40 for L.A. and 73 PIM to 31 for the Ducks.
So let’s just see what happens tonight before abandoning all hope.

Are you really going to blame the referee for VAN’s absolute idiotic judgment during these past two games? Come on. Devorski was seen warning Kassian before game face-off against the Kings and he went ahead and tripped Brown anyway 9 seconds into the game.

You have got to be kidding. The “Devorski factor?” How about the “Tortorella factor” which translates trying to turn a soft team with soft players into enforcement mode. So, the results are in and they are not pretty. Two losses, one blowout, and you are looking at a team that won’t make the playoffs unless they go back a couple of weeks and employ what got them in contention in the first place.

Their twitter account was awesome last night…the amount of sarcasm and other stuff their account during the game was just too good!

Pretty hard to argue with anything you guys said. There’s no reason to expect the Sedins, now well into their 30s, will ever reach the heights of 2010-2011 again (and you could say the same of Burrows as well). Bringing in Torts has been positive for the team, but at the end of the day, this is still a team with less assets to offer its coach than the one that came within a game of winning the Cup. There are some nice prospects, but they’re not in the lineup, contributing, right now. I’ll be happy if they can keep the playoff streak alive for the next couple of years while guys like Horvat, Shinkaruk and Corrado work their way onto the roster.

    #MoralVictory!

= 1 goal in two games, 10 goals allowed, and 142 PIM !

Well, I think they”ll have to get a couple of their injured players back before they can start “employing what got them into contention in the first place.” Thanks for coming, though…..we enjoy your input.
