As rumored, the Ottawa Senators have extended the contract of general manager Bryan Murray.

The 71-year-old’s new deal takes him to July of 2016, after which he’ll remain with the organization for two more seasons as an advisor.

Murray has also been named the president of hockey operations.

“I am very pleased to have Bryan remain here in Ottawa for the next four years. Without question, Bryan stands among the best general managers in the National Hockey League,” said Senators owner Eugene Melnyk in a release. “Our drafting success and the emergence of so many young, dynamic players within our organization is a testament to Bryan’s leadership and wealth of hockey knowledge.”

As for Murray’s potential successor? Well, both Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee have been named assistant GMs, so there are two candidates.

The Sens, of course, recently bid adieu to assistant GM Tim Murray, who left the club to become the new general manager of the Buffalo Sabres.
