Video: Tomas Tatar with another beauty goal, backhand top corner

Jan 9, 2014, 11:35 PM EDT

Tomas Tatar has done it again.

The Detroit Red Wings forward scored another beautiful goal, this time he did it against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. Tatar put on a stick-handling clinic behind the San Jose net – it helped that Marc-Edouard Vlasic didn’t have a stick to defend with – and then brought the puck out and went top corner with a backhander on Antti Niemi.

Tatar also scored another breathtaking goal on Saturday – a definite goal of the year candidate – when he beat two Dallas Stars defensemen and scored, again, on the backhand.

Between Tatar and Nyquist, are we seeing the next Wings version of Datsyuk and Zetterberg? Pretty impressive so far.

I can understand how outsiders would see this and be awed, and it is a beauty but compared him to Datsyuk is going way too far. Tatar’s problem is that he tries this every time he has the puck and most of the time he pulls way too many unnecessary dekes way too quickly and loses it. He dekes himself all out of whack. The beauty of Datsyuk is that he absolutely never does that, and only dekes when necessary. When Tatar tries to deke 5-6 times per possession, Datsyuk would accomplish the same end-result in 2-3. Not really trying to make a huge point here, I guess I’m just saying don’t lose your mind over the guy. Nyquist is much the same way-waaaay too many dekes when keeping it simple would be better. Zetterberg is the master of that. One move, maybe two yet he somehow can flow through one or two guys and never lose it. Nyquist needs to muscle Zetterberg has.
