The AHL All-Star Classic will pit the above roster against Swedish club Färjestad BK on Feb. 11 (skills competition) and Feb. 12 (the game) in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The NHL will be in its Olympic break then, so presumably all the players will be available.

No Rangers prospects listed. I weep for the future.

    Um, Miele???

anybody know the requirements to qualify for this team? AKA how many games in the AHL did they have to play? wondering how Emerson Etem didn’t make this list…. along with quite a few others.

ya that’s cool. a 100% legit question gets thumbed down. oh that’s right. most of the people on PHT aren’t hockey fans, but strictly NHL fans.

You should also be wondering how the heck Cal Heeter (Flyers Prospect/goalie) didn’t make this team. He has the best goals agaibst average, save percentage, and is tied for the league lead in shut outs. The team AHL coaches didn’t just screw the pooch on that one… they bent it over, tied its paws to the table, gagged it, and mercilessly went to town on it.

Sorry for the disturbing image I surely painted in your mind there. I’m a rangers fan, as you may have inferred, but the phantoms play in my home town. Cal’s a great guy, and if anyone deserved to be on this team, it’s him.

ya I find a lot of that list weird. well, more so, the “snubs.” but if I’m being honest, I’ve never seen Heeter play for the Phantoms.

        BAD Flyers fan! BAD!

another thing. is the Swedish Elite really so good that one of their regular teams can hang with a team of AHL all-stars?

    • storminator16 - Jan 9, 2014 at 4:59 PM

      Does it matter?

      • ibieiniid - Jan 10, 2014 at 8:11 AM

did you just ask me if a question I asked matters? yes, it does. that’s why i asked it, guy. I don’t know about you but I don’t get to watch a lot of Swedish hockey, so I don’t know how their league performs, really. was wondering if this is a good matchup or if it’s just the AHL’s way to guarantee their all stars win.

oh, but I guess unless it’s something YOU care about, nobody should try to learn about it…

Swedish League is a step above the AHL… so the All-Star team is the AHL’s way of hanging with the Swedes.

      • ibieiniid - Jan 10, 2014 at 8:16 AM

a step above as far as…….

I know the Swedish elite is the top pro league in most of Europe, but they’re also not a farm league for the NHL. and you don’t see players leaving the NHL in their prime to go to the SEL, so I know they aren’t NHL level. thought they and the AHL might be about the same level.

pretty surprised none of the Penguins Defensemen who played lights out during the winning streak were selected. I would have figured that Despres, Samuelssen, Dumolin, or Harrington would have made it
