Video: Tomas Tatar’s goal of the year offering

Jan 5, 2014, 6:26 PM EDT

If there ever was an appropriate time to give into the temptation that comes with making cheesy sauce-related jokes regarding Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar, his goal from Saturday’s 5-1 win against the Dallas Stars was the right moment.

Whether you gather your goal of the year nominees by season or calendar year, the 21-year-old’s resounding work against three Stars skaters and a helpless Kari Lehtonen deserves a mention:

That might even slightly impress Pavel Datsyuk

Am i the only person who doesnt think it was god like?

He avoided ONE player who lunged for a hit and in the process took out the only other guy who could have stopped him.

Great effort, looked a lot more fantastic than it was, IMO. Not saying it was ho-hum, just not all it has been cracked up to be

it was definitely a good goal but the headline overhypes it. not gonna lie i see this stuff all night every night watching the pens.

      • lowenni - Jan 5, 2014 at 8:01 PM

Pens score some amazing goals…but don’t get ahead of yourself bud. You don’t see goals like that every night, let alone on a single team.

      • c9castine - Jan 6, 2014 at 11:13 PM

haha you sure about that? here let me tone down the exaggeration for you. on MOST nights i see it. bud.

      • drewzducks - Jan 5, 2014 at 8:19 PM

Certainly not in last years ECF.

      • c9castine - Jan 6, 2014 at 11:11 PM

that it? how the ducks do? pretty sure worse than the pens.

      • drewzducks - Jan 6, 2014 at 11:22 PM

I’m a Bruins fan imbecile. I’m pretty sure they did better than the Pens did last year. I’m guessing you’ve never heard of the University of Oregon. That it ?

      • c9castine - Jan 7, 2014 at 2:20 PM

imbecile? haha calm down BUD. guess you’ve never heard of tampons cause sounds like you need one. pro hockey talk thought maybe your name represented a pro hockey team.

107 people got their panties in a jealous bunch. pens got talent. hate them or whatever, but they got lots of talent.

so does tomas tatar. waaaaahhhhhh pens got swept in the ECF last year they are sooo bad!

wanna talk about meltdowns lets talk game 6 SCF. 3rd period. last 10 minutes. last 2 minutes.

congrats on the conference title though, really. i know thats what their goals was right?

    • icelovinbrotha215 - Jan 5, 2014 at 8:51 PM

God-like? C’mon man. Calm down. It was an impressive goal and most likely will make the ‘2013-14 Top Goals of the Year’ list for most hockey media outlets.

Tatar’s fun to watch, he’s really shifty. He reminds me of a mini-Datsyuk (not saying he’s going to be anywhere near that good, but still). If he gets a proper look in the top-6 and continues to hone his skills he could be a real good player a year or two from now. Amazes me that Detroit is always able to find these non-first round gems like Nyquist, Jurco, and Tatar who are already making an impact at a young age and prepping to replace Detroit’s aging stars.

yep, the wings are incredible at drafting and developing

  3. letthecoldcome - Jan 5, 2014 at 7:20 PM

Yeah, you are the only one. Shut up.

  4. muckleflugga - Jan 5, 2014 at 8:59 PM

yeah…and if crosby had made the same move, pens fans would have ejaculated simultaneously…comfortable in their warm wet circle

hockey night in canada would be rolling it in their opening montage…forever…after the hot stove league wet themselves in joy…six weeks running

tsn would have dissected the play in minutiae…from eighty eight camera angles over nine days…touting sid for the conn smythe…the goal for play of the new millennium…ad nauseam

there are changes lying ahead on every road…there are new thoughts ready and waiting to explode…when tomorrow is today…the bells will toll for some

but nothing can change the shape of things to come!

    the future’s coming on now…sweet and strong…

I guess that’s what happens when a guy wins a gold medal at the Olympics. Maybe the Jim Craig circle will dry if the US can ever win one again.

  5. LampyB - Jan 5, 2014 at 11:17 PM

It was an unbelievable move. You must have missed the way he put the puck between the defenders feet thats where the magic happens.

  6. hightopandrocket - Jan 5, 2014 at 11:36 PM

It’s “ta-tar”, not “tarter”, anybody who’s watched 10 minutes of a Red Wings game would know that…

    • jeffchadwick - Jan 6, 2014 at 9:48 AM

^^^ not in on the joke.

  7. isphet71 - Jan 6, 2014 at 9:02 AM

    That move was Tatarded!
