Video: Lupul crosschecks Eaves in Winter Classic

Lupul on Eaves

A nasty crosscheck, by Toronto’s Joffrey Lupul to the neck/head of Detroit’s Patrick Eaves, was the most notable play of the 2014 Winter Classic’s scoreless first period.

Lupul received a two-minute minor from the on-ice officials. But given Eaves was forced to leave the game with an upper-body injury and is questionable to return, plus the fact Lupul received a two-game suspension in March for hitting Tampa Bay’s Victor Hedman in the head, that may not be the extent of the punishment. Expect the NHL’s Department of Player Safety to take a close look.
