Pavelec rips Yakupov for ‘cheap’ elbow (w/video)

Dec 27, 2013, 2:41 PM EDT

Winnipeg goalie Ondrej Pavelec is none too pleased about a shot he took from Edmonton’s Nail Yakupov on Monday.

But it’s not the kind of shot you’d think.

Pavelec accused Yakupov of elbowing him in the head during the Oilers’ 6-2 win, in an incident that occurred early in the second period with Edmonton leading 2-1.

“It was cheap,” Pavelec said, per Paul Friesen of the Winnipeg Sun. “Elbow in the face. You can get hurt from that. I had no idea it was coming.”

Here’s the play in question:

The Jets were irate with the incident and tensions boiled over with less than four minutes to go in the third period, when Yakupov, Andrew Ladd, Zach Bogosian, Bryan Little and Chris Thorburn combined for over 50 penalty minutes.

“I wasn’t happy that (Yakupov) threw a forearm at our goalie’s head, that was pretty much it,” Ladd told the Sun. “If he wants to do that, he’ll have some stuff to deal with.”

Maybe Yakupov is expecting to be traded to Pittsburgh. His play fits in well over there.

Looks a lot like Kadri “Macho Man” Savage.

Yup, looks like he extends the forearm coming into Pavelec despite not looking that close to hitting him. The best possible spin I could think of if Yakupov felt he was going to fall into Pavelec since he was leaning so far forward and tried to push off him. But that’s a lot of spin I think.

oh! oh! did he answer the bell for that hit?

    • teamziss0u - Dec 27, 2013 at 3:16 PM

No. Not really. He was definetly challenged and hacked but from what I recall seeing, he never really owned up.

fortunately for him Thornton doesn’t play for the jets.😊

Sorry Joey, as I disagree with you …

friend, what this punk Yakupov did here was ‘unacceptable’ and he should’ve paid for his misguided ways ‘post haste’ with a simple fist in the face … the bottom line is quite simple, in that tolerance of ‘low-quality’ conduct begets further acts of ‘low-quality’ conduct … or as my old friend Stransky would say “hesitation & fear attract trouble, while truth & strength repel it” … the key therefore is to always engage ‘low-quality’ conduct asap and to neutralize it with superior force and conviction … failure to do that with only compound the troubles of ‘he’ who is misguided, which in the end is actually a disservice to ‘he’ himself …

      ‘Tis the season. Joey’s trolling. Troll-lo-lo-lo-loll, troll-lo-lo-loll.

I would say more like being a little sarcastic today.

My god just listen to these announcers gush over this over rated, 4th line, cheap-shot, 6 goal scoring, MINUS 25 (not a mis print…he’s -25), former overall #1 pick. remember Nikita Filitov? I do.
Thank you lord for my Jackets not drafting this punk.
Ryan Murray 20-22 minutes toi , humble, respects the game, getting better every night. 9 points paired with Wizniewsli and an overall -1. plays even, pp and pk.

“Thank you lord for my Jackets not drafting this punk” …

Well said friend and praise be that Columbus never ‘engaged’ with this punk eh ? :)

Blomfeld sidebar: I’ve only been to the great state of Ohio once, and that was to the fair city of Toledo …

    He barely hit him.
He got two-handed by Byf and chopped at by Ladd.
Much Ado about nothing. It’s hockey, goalies are protected by armour, a small elbow doesn’t hurt him.

    • blomfeld - Dec 27, 2013 at 11:58 PM

“Much Ado about nothing” ? …

Blomfeld: Tiger One to Tiger Two … blow that piece of junk off the bridge !

Tiger Two: yes comrade , consider it done !
