Sabres’ Stafford ejected for elbow on Ekman-Larsson (Updated)

Dec 23, 2013, 8:48 PM EDT

Buffalo Sabres forward Drew Stafford was ejected from Monday’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes for an elbow to the head of Oliver Ekman-Larsson.

Stafford received a major for elbow and a game misconduct just past the midway point of the second period. Larsson has remained in the game.

The ejection to Stafford meant the already flu-ravaged Sabres went from 16 players down to 15, as per Joe Yerdon of ProHockeyTalk and NHL.com.

The Sabres were able to kill off the major penalty, in part because Coyotes’ forward Martin Hanzal took a minor penalty as his team entered the second half of its power play opportunity.

I hope he’s suspended for the remainder of his contract. This guy sucks and is a virus. The team played outstanding after he was ejected.

How did this get downvoted? I was at the game and I was thrilled to see him thrown out.

Stafford was actually having a pretty good game up until that point. It was a very reckless play on his part though. I’m glad Eckman-Larson(sp?) wasn’t injured, he is a solid player.

This coyotes player deserves an award for the act. Stafford is an idiot for retaliating from earlier play but he didn’t even catch him in face with the elbow.
