The St. Louis Blues announced that they have moved defenseman Roman Polak to the injured reserve list.

Although the Blues are calling it a lower-body injury, Polak might have hurt his ankle in the second period of Thursday’s contest, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Jeremy Rutherford. He’s expected to be sidelined for at least two weeks before he’s re-evaluated.

The 27-year-old blueliner was one of eight players to appear in all 34 of the Blues games this season. That streak will obviously end tonight when St. Louis faces the Edmonton Oilers. He had seven points and 24 penalty minutes while averaging 17:25 minutes per contest.

St. Louis is also getting by without defenseman Jordan Leopold as well as forwards Vladimir Sobotka, Ryan Reaves, and David Backes.

Seriously??? Our boys are dropping like flies! This will put Carlo AND Cole in at defense…

They are really in a bind. They can bring up Chorney or go shopping. Maybe Rattie would bring a serviceable d-man. And as for Cole, jhaegs, lighten up. He had a very good game against Montreal and has overall been pretty solid. If you want to rip on a d-man how about Jackman? He’s been outplayed by Cole the last 3 games. But you can still rip on Colaiacavo, he sucks.

A few games (for either player) won’t change my perception of them. Cole needs to put together a few more solid games to make up for previous disasters, and Jackman has proven himself. I’ll admit I didn’t find myself cussing Cole out last game, but that Columbus game was atrocious. Leopold has been skating, and I hope he is nearing his return. Let’s just have JayBo play an extra 20min/game. I’m sure he could handle it….

Cole and Carlo are linemates tonight…

Uh oh. I hope Cole makes a liar out of you and Colaiacavo makes a liar out of both of us. But realistically if Leopold doesn’t come back in a week they’ve got to make some kind of a move. That’s the downside of having the light early season schedule- now they’ll be averaging 3 1/2 games a week until the Olympic break. And as much faith as I have in the Blues top 4 defensemen I’m worried the temptation will be to play them 30 minutes and then we will have more injury problems.

They played decently, but I’m not reading too much into a game against the Oilers… or the upcoming game against Calgary. We’ll get a good look at them against Chicago, but hopefully Polak and Leopold will be back by then!!!
