Kings’ Mitchell skates Wednesday, looking to get ‘right back at it’

There was good news surrounding L.A. Kings defenseman Willie Mitchell on Wednesday, as he took part in an optional practice.

As per L.A. Kings Insider, it was the first time he’s hit the ice since leaving Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators when he took a hard hit from Chris Neil.

Mitchell, who suffered an upper-body injury as a result of the hit, came back in the second period, but then sat out the third. There was some speculation perhaps it was a concussion, especially since he has a history with concussions throughout his career.

“It’s kind of a fine line between doing that and then also being a liability. You don’t want to be a liability either,” said Mitchell, as per L.A. Kings Insider.

“If you can’t play because you don’t have the strength or battle and doing all those things you do as a defenseman, then I don’t want to be on the ice doing that either. That’s why I decided it was time to leave. The last couple days, it’s just getting a little bit of rest and I’ll hopefully be right back at it.”

Mitchell, 36, has played 13 seasons in the National Hockey League. In 33 games this season, he has four assists.

The Kings host the San Jose Sharks in a Pacific Division battle on Thursday. The Kings currently lead the Sharks by two points for that second spot in the ultra competitive division.

Of course I understand that they’re prohibited from saying so … however I’m now ‘completely’ convinced than Tucker and crew are ‘staunch & ardent’ supporters of the ‘glorious’ Kings of Los Angeles ! :)

Anyway, this latest news about Mitchell is very ‘reassuring’ to say the least eh ? I’ve always believed friends that apart from the ‘devastating’ damage caused by the Planet of the Apes hockey which we got suckered into playing against the Blues and Sharks last year, a key reason for us not ‘repeating’ was due to comrade Mitchell’s absence on our back line. As Napoleon once famously said … “if the art of war were nothing but the art of avoiding risks, glory would become the prey of mediocre minds…. I have made all the calculations and fate will do the rest” … may God bless us Kings in our forthcoming engagement with the Sharks tomorrow night !

Keep up the good work Mr. Blomfeld. I enjoy reading your posts.

Mitchell is the linchpin of our defense. As well as the Kings are playing, Mitchell and his game make them that much better. This is a good thing. With all the great play – the Kings are 12-2-3 since Quick got hurt. Who would’ve thunk it?

I think Quick may feel a bit insecure with the backups putting up better numbers than he had but the defense was not playing as well either. Quick is the best yet it is such a comfort to have the wealth of young goal tenders we have come to know in the last month and a half.

    GO KINGS GO!!!
