Video: Blues’ Backes suffers upper-body injury (Updated)

Dec 16, 2013, 9:37 PM EDT

St. Louis Blues captain David Backes left Monday’s game against the Ottawa Senators and will not return due to an upper-body injury, as per Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Backes struggled on his way back to the bench and to the dressing room after a collision with Ottawa Senators forward Colin Greening in the second period.

In 31 games with the Blues this season, Backes has 16 goals and 30 points prior to Monday’s game.

Senators forward Bobby Ryan was also shaken up in the second period, but has since returned to the game, as per Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.

Updated: As per Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Blues’ head coach Ken Hitchcock said Backes is “day to day” but did not disclose what type of injury it was.

Looked like a helmet to helmet hit. Personal foul-15yd penalty, and $7,500 fine to be handed down from the league… oh, wait…

Seriously hope Backes is good to go tomorrow. We missed him tonight, and definitely need his physical presence tomorrow- especially since Reaves is still out. Blues need to pull through and prove they can compete when they lose keys players to injury (Backes, Sobotka, Schwartz, Leopold, Reaves).

LOL. Not so sure about that. It’s hard to get a beat on Kings fans, as most of them are batshi¡t crazy!

i suspect you’re mainly speaking of the one king’s fan who post non-relevant videos all the time?

Actually he’s pretty benign. Fortunately they don’t come out in force i this venue like they do in Yahoo game threads.
