Penguins unveil Stadium Series jerseys

Dec 13, 2013, 2:13 PM EDT

The Pittsburgh Penguins have unveiled the jerseys they’ll be wearing for their Stadium Series matchup against Chicago at Soldier Field on Mar. 1:

“I like the logo with the silver accent and metallic look,” Chris Kunitz told the Pens website. “It has a different kind of fit with the striping. The socks and pants all tie into one. It’s a good look.

“It keeps the original in tact, but changed enough to play in an outdoor game.”

Speaking of changes for the outdoor game, the Pens announced numbers on the backs and sleeves have been enlarged/angled to improve visibility in outdoor venues.

Those are pretty slick. I like the way they shaped the black on the shoulders.

    • steelpenbucs87 - Dec 13, 2013 at 2:51 PM

You like that? I don’t know I thought it looked like the Buffalo Bills jerseys from the mid 2000s. Not a fan.

With that said, am I the only one who does not see a difference with this “metallic” logo? Is it just the sheen?

      • killerpgh - Dec 13, 2013 at 2:54 PM

There is silver in the logo that usually isn’t there.

      • steelpenbucs87 - Dec 13, 2013 at 3:23 PM

It does? You mean just the accents?

      • claudegirwho - Dec 13, 2013 at 3:25 PM

I think they look like the cheap knock offs that wal-mart sells for 25 bucks

      • drone501 - Dec 13, 2013 at 5:39 PM

        i canT see it either.

    • laxman1944 - Dec 13, 2013 at 3:01 PM

      Me too……

It really brings out the pink in their skirts.

  2. charastein - Dec 13, 2013 at 2:30 PM

    Nice colors. How original. :/

    • nj666 - Dec 13, 2013 at 2:46 PM

Uh what colors are they supposed to use?

      • charastein - Dec 13, 2013 at 2:51 PM

Ones that don’t rip off another original six team perhaps?

Add a spoked B instead of a goofy looking Tennessee Tuxedo-looking penguin and what have you got? Hmmm?

Oh wait. It’s YELLOW not GOLD. Like the spines of the crybabies that wear them! HA! Huge difference.

      • nj666 - Dec 13, 2013 at 2:55 PM

Wow you’re the only cry baby here. You’re color blind if you think they resemble anything close to a bruins jersey.

      • charastein - Dec 13, 2013 at 3:25 PM

        Riiiiiight.

    • tk1966 - Dec 13, 2013 at 6:26 PM

You mean the original six team that ripped off the colors of a minor league team that was in existence nine years prior to them? The case could be made that the Bruins (founded 1924) ripped off the color scheme of the Pittsburgh Yellow Jackets (founded 1915).

      Get over yourself.

Penguins jerseys are always so brutal ugly.

  4. pitpenguinsrulez - Dec 13, 2013 at 3:23 PM

I like them but I’d do away with the chrome logo and use the regular logo instead

    • nj666 - Dec 13, 2013 at 3:51 PM

I think every stadium series team is getting a “chromed out” logo, Apparently NHL jerseys have gone the way of rims on rappers cars

  5. muckleflugga - Dec 13, 2013 at 4:12 PM

i absolutely love the logo, it’s so, so…penguins

chicken wielding club rampant on international symbol for distress

    de rigueur…

the 911 tribute patch, honouring those first responders pulling our wounded hero from saturday’s wreckage during penguins’ most recent bombing in boston, brought tears to my eyes…

wow, every player wears forty four, nice touch

    contemporain…

honey, does the lining in the macaw’s cage need changing…?

    • drone501 - Dec 13, 2013 at 5:41 PM

be careful what you say about bombing. your treading a fine line. especially if you are from boston.

  6. hazlydose - Dec 13, 2013 at 4:14 PM

I would have liked to see the banana yellow/gold 80’s jerseys, but these aren’t that bad. It could be worse. We could have had shoulder yokes with a penguin print pattern like the atrocious olympic jerseys.

  7. mrpinkca - Dec 13, 2013 at 4:18 PM

I really don’t like any of these jerseys. The one redeeming aspect of them is that they are better than the olympic jerseys.

  8. steelers88 - Dec 13, 2013 at 4:45 PM

    Hazyldose.
I wish they would to that would be sick. I heard somewhere that the Penguins were going to use them next year for their 3rd jerseys. I also liked the powder blue jerseys. Didn’t care for much of the dark blue jerseys.

    • hazlydose - Dec 13, 2013 at 6:20 PM

I don’t care for the dark blue jerseys either and I’m not one for superstition, but it did seem that any time a major injury occurred it was when they were wearing them.

They are ugly just like there real uniforms, by the way that penguin is really a tough looking character. A penguin really?

  11. footballchamp - Dec 13, 2013 at 6:11 PM

Those look like Boston Bruins jersey! Why would they go for a Bruins look? So strange. The black shoulders and bottom striping are really Boston-like.

Nice looking jersey’s, just so odd to model them after Boston’s.

  12. muckleflugga - Dec 13, 2013 at 6:20 PM

    what…

because the nsa, the cia, the fbi, homeland security, the boston police and marathon organizers made a complete ball-up of security, permitting individuals with known terrorist ties to wander at will and steal the lives of three young and beautiful souls, the term bombing is removed from the popular lexicon…?

if anything, we should never be permitted to forget, nattering from the politically correct notwithstanding

the sleep of reason brings monsters…

turned on the news yet today

  13. mclovinhockey - Dec 14, 2013 at 7:58 AM

Minus the sleeves, I think this is one of the better jerseys I have seen from the pens in a long time. Maybe if the stripes on the sleeve wrapped around and were a bit smaller… Although I dislike the pens and hawks, can’t wait for the game. : ) good luck pens although I will be cheering for the hawks haha.

The Penguins are the fashionistas of the NHL. They lead the league in the number of different UNI’S. Are they attempting to wear something different every time they take the ice for a game?
