Make that four straight losses.

The New York Rangers continue to stumble along through this first half of the regular season, with their latest setback coming in a 4-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

Four straight home games in a string of nine in a row. Four losses. Not endearing themselves to the locals, who already voiced their displeasure by booing the home team off the ice two nights ago.

The Blue Jackets wasted little time gaining the upper hand in this one, scoring three times before the game was 12 minutes old. Henrik Lundqvist was promptly pulled, giving way to Cam Talbot.

In the end, the Rangers made it somewhat close, getting to within a goal before Ryan Johansen put this one out of reach with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

Alain Vigneault chose to heap positive reinforcements upon his team yesterday, despite their struggles. Hard to think he would come back with the same message after this latest loss.

But this loss drops them to 15-17-1.

I wasn’t surprised when King Lundquist’s numbers began to suffer when Torts left the organization. AV has always believed that you should clear the lane and let the goalie do his job. I also wasn’t surprised when Lou’s numbers started getting better under Torts as he believes that the less shots that reach the net the better. What I was surprised about was the mega-contract that Lundquist got when there are good, cheaper goalies available. Of course there is also the fact that the goalies who pushed the “equipment” limits are having the stats corrected because of the reduction.
