Say what you will about all the outdoor games the NHL has planned; in Chicago, fans are clearly excited for the Blackhawks-Penguins contest at Soldier Field on March 1 (on NBC). The league announced today that the game sold out in less than 24 hours after tickets went on sale Wednesday morning.

Other outdoor games will be held this season at Michigan Stadium (Winter Classic), Yankee StadiumDodger Stadium, and BC Place.

All the critics are just negative people. Have a many as the public wants but with so many. Eventually the weather will win one… Heavy rain or an unexpected heat wave. Until then Go for it

In fairness, an outdoor game involving half a dozen of the League’s best players and two of the last four Cup champions sounds pretty friggin’ sweet.

People need to stop complaining about the new outdoor games, sure the winter classic wont seem quite as special but who cares, there are only 6 so it doesnt completely take away from it, more teams will get the chance, and there will be 6 outdoor games! enjoy them, it would be dumb for the NHL not to at least taken advantage of the idea in some way because of how much money is involved. It was clearly the smart move for the NHL and enjoy the games instead of complaining that the 1 is not quite as special anymore. Also b/c the winter classic is on January 1st and is the 1st outdoor its still going to seem pretty awesome every year.

Slysipops – friend, just ignore that communist Short Exit … sources are telling me that tickets for the King’s outdoor game are now being snapped up faster than a bunch of topless/drunk babes at Manhattan Beach ! … you gotta love it man ! :)

The prices are stupidly high for this game. I think they wanted to keep out the Los Angeles thugs that frequent Los Doyers games. I also think many people are staying away because they don’t want to deal with that element at this contest. They are now offering a 50 dollar credit to NHL.com for buying a ticket priced at $250 or more. The tickets are moving slowly, StubHub will be flooded with people trying to dump their tickets. I will be their, though . . . sitting in my 279 dollar seats with a crappy view. Ah well.

The outdoor games are gonna be awesome. There’s only one “winter classic” on Jan 1. It won’t spoil it.

Less than 24 hours? Way less. Ticketmaster said there were no seats available within ten minutes of them going on sale.

I don’t know about the other games, but the game in Los Angeles isn’t selling.

all of the outdoor games look to be pretty good, especially this one. i am interested in how the game in los angeles is going to turn out. i also don’t think that having 6 games takes away from the novelty of having an outdoor game considering the number of games each year.

the only reason the nhl is doing this though is the huge payday awaiting them. people will tune in. people will buy the merchandise. the one thing i definitely don’t want them to do is go overboard and have so many games that it will become like watching just another hockey game.

They only bought tickets because the Bruins are going to make a cameo during the second period to heat up the Penguins.
