The Washington Capitals have assigned goalie Michal Neuvirth to AHL Hershey on a conditioning stint, the club announced on Thursday.

In seven games with Washington this season, Neuvirth is 2-3-1 with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. He hasn’t played since Nov. 22, missing time with a groin injury after hurting himself during a pregame warmup last week.

With Neuvirth out, the Caps called up Philipp Grubauer and the German ‘tender has fared well. Grubauer has played in three games, recording a 2-0-0 record with a 1.36 GAA and .959 save percentage.

Loving Grubauer over Holtby and Neuvy for sure. Holtby needs to get it together and as much as I’d be sad to see Neuvy go. It’s time to part ways.

Agreed. Neuvirth has had the chance to win the starting job several times over the past few years- and he’s consistently failed to do so. No joy in winning out over Varlamov, Vokoun, Holtby- he’s not even been a consistently decent backup, with streaks of good play mixed with bad.

Maybe another team can find a way to make him work (Calgary?), but it he hasn’t become a decent goalie at this point in Washington, it’s just not going to happen here.

Agree. Time for Neuvy to go. I have the road to the winter classics DVD, caps vs pens, and in that dan byalsma (pens coach) even says “their goalie isn’t very good” (talking about Neuvy)

Holtby has been very inconsistent. I like his play in general but he has been letting in a lot of soft goals

If the capitals had cap space I would love to see them go after Ryan miller or hiller in Anaheim

Should of sent Holtby to Hershey.
