Another Quick study: Jones notches second shutout in a row for Kings

Dec 10, 2013, 11:47 PM EST

When Ben Scrivens was wowing people in the Los Angeles Kings net, the reflex was to make “Jonathan Who?”-type jokes. Now it seems like Martin Jones might just pull the same trick with Scrivens.

Jones, 23, collected his second consecutive shutout on Tuesday as the Kings embarrassed the Montreal Canadiens 6-0. He’s won all three of his games, stopping 75 of the 77 shots he’s seen at the NHL level.

Naturally, this is not to say that Scrivens hasn’t continued his strong play. He won his last game on Dec. 2 and hasn’t allowed more than two goals in a single game since he took over for an injured Jonathan Quick.

Really, Jones deserves some credit – he stopped 31 shots tonight, including 17 in the first period – but this might strengthen an argument that many might make: the Kings have a tendency to make their goalies look pretty strong.

Either way, Jones and Scrivens might just make Kings fans shrug their shoulders at news of Quick being placed on the LTIR.
