Evgeni Malkin has a lower-body injury and will miss tonight’s game versus San Jose, according to Penguins coach Dan Bylsma.

Malkin’s status is “day-to-day,” suggesting his ailment, whatever it is, isn’t a particularly serious one.

Malkin reportedly suffered the injury during this morning’s skate, which he left early. On Tuesday, he played 25:22 while picking up a pair of assists in a 3-2 overtime win over the Islanders.

The NHL’s second-leading scorer behind Pittsburgh teammate Sidney Crosby, Malkin has been named the NHL’s first star of the week in consecutive weeks. The 27-year-old had four goals and 21 assists in the month of November alone.

Nooo… my fantasy team finally clawed its way to the middle of the pack and now this!

I do not like this news. This is not news that I like.

Going up against one of the top teams in the league without malkin will be tough. Still doable, but tough. I expect jokinen will move to center the 2nd line, and hopefully they put kobesaw back in the lineup.

This sucks Malkin was really about to take off and now his injured. I think and hope his fine but It wouldn’t surprise me if Malkin broke his foot knowing the Penguins luck with injuries this year.

Tough loss for the Pens. Should still be a close game.

i bet you can hardly contain yourself with anticipation for this one…being a penguins/sharks fan and all

      • bencia823 - Dec 5, 2013 at 2:31 PM

wait, so I’m not the only pens and sharks fan? I thought I was one of the few who were, considering the fact that I picked my favorite teams based on stuffed animals I had when I was a kid (Penguin and Shark Beanie Babies). I’m a pens fan above all, but I watch almost every sharks game as well.

      • c9castine - Dec 5, 2013 at 3:55 PM

wait let me guess. you want the sharks to win in OT

  6. steelers88 - Dec 5, 2013 at 1:04 PM

This must be weird for you.

  7. steelers88 - Dec 5, 2013 at 1:17 PM

The thing that really sucks is that the Penguins were finally starting to click and get on a roll.

  8. lilgurgi - Dec 5, 2013 at 1:19 PM

As a Flyers fan I can’t stand the Pens, but I do respect the talent they have. Pens just need to stay out of the box and play within their means. Should still be a good game though.

    • lilgurgi - Dec 5, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Thumbs down for saying I respect the Pens and thinking that it will be a good game. I’ll never understand some people.

      • bencia823 - Dec 5, 2013 at 2:34 PM

It’s probably because of one of the following:
        “I can’t stand the Pens”
“they need to stay out of the box” (The penguins haven’t had much trouble with the PK)
“Play within their means” (They are capable of matching up with any team talent wise, so sticking to a specific system (though helpful), isn’t completely necessary)

Unfortunately, “As a Flyers fan…” was all some people had to see, especially on a Pens post.

@steelers, not at all. It’s a win-win situation. Although, I would prefer the Sharks to come out victorious. Either way, it will be a fun game to watch. :)

I really hope this is a preview of the Stanley Cup final.

    • steelpenbucs87 - Dec 5, 2013 at 1:28 PM

While I share your hope, its still way too early to start thinking about the Cup Final IMHO.

    • bencia823 - Dec 5, 2013 at 2:37 PM

I agree, and I especially hope hat the guy who puts the sharks over the edge in the west is mr. “I don’t always score, but when I do, it’s the game winner”, Tyler Kennedy
