PHT Morning Skate: Alain Vigneault’s calming influence in New York

PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

Apparently Alain Vigneault has a “calming influence” on the Rangers. Switching from John Tortorella to just about anyone would have that effect, right? (Winnipeg Free Press)

Editor’s Note: Pro Hockey Talk’s partner FanDuel is hosting a $2,000 Fantasy Hockey league for Wednesday’s NHL games. It’s just $10 to join and first prize is $400. Starts Wednesday at 7pm ET. Here’s the FanDuel link.

Yes, your team could have Florida’s Dmitry Kulikov and probably very easily, too. (TSN)

The Sharks have quite a few big name players who need new deals this summer. (ESPN)

Pat LaFontaine’s search for a new GM may lead to him hiring someone who has never held the position before. Don’t worry Sabres fans, that’s not as scary as it sounds. (The Score)

The Toronto Maple Leafs have an especially brutal schedule in December that the gang at Pension Plan Puppets are calling “Badvent.” Just think of an Advent calendar that gives you poison each day instead of chocolate. (PPP)

You won’t believe it, but Boston Bruins coach Claude Julien doesn’t particularly like the Montreal Canadiens. (CSNNE.com)

Karl Alzner says the Capitals took the Carolina Hurricanes “way too lightly.” (CSNWashington.com)

Gee. Vigneault is different from Tortorella. Who would have guessed? Hello, Black? I’d like for you to meet White.

And before people get crazy thinking I’m referring to anything other than the contrast in styles of coaching, one word: don’t. I used ‘black’ and ‘white’ only as an example of opposites.

It will be interesting to see, though, which team emerges the better in the long run.

“Right now I don’t like [the Canadiens], and I really don’t like them on that side because I am a Boston Bruin right now.”

That’s so poetic, you hypocritical ogre.

What would you have him do? Tank the game and root for the Habs?

He’s from Ottawa. Back then, there were no Sens to root for, so he rooted for the Habs. He’s paid to be a Bruin and part of that means the Habs are the enemy. I’m sure he knew that when he took the damn job!

You’ll probably expect Iginla to “not try as hard” when they play Calgary. Don’t want to “accidentally” score a goal on your old team! Someone give me a trash can so I can throw logic in it.

I have absolutely no clue what you are talking about…I’m not calling him hypocritical because he doesn’t like the Habs, I don’t like the Habs either. I’m calling him hypocritical because of his moronic views of the actions of his own team vs. the actions of the other 29 teams…which has nothing to do with the article (which was a non-story anyway).

I should have said “That’s so poetic, you dumbas*” instead, to save the confusion.

Yeah, AV is making the Rangers so calm they’re practically sleepwalking through parts of games. Maybe calm isn’t the way to go in hockey.

Staying buried in your zone for 60 minutes getting hit with pucks and yelled out by a Nazi of a coach isn’t the way to go either.

      Give AV some time.
