Alfredsson collects two points in victorious return to Ottawa

However Senators fans feel about Daniel Alfredsson‘s departure from Ottawa and return visit, the bottom line is that their former captain’s new team won on Sunday. Alfredsson collected two points (a secondary assist an and empty-netter) as the Detroit Red Wings won 4-2.

He was named the third star of the game, although there’s little doubt the spotlight was brightest on him of all players tonight.

For what it’s worth, Alfredsson seems correct in believing that Detroit has a better chance to contend than Ottawa, even if he seemingly left for more reasons than just competitive opportunities. The Red Wings are now ranked third in the East (14-7-7 for 35 points in 28 games) while the Senators are 12th after their second consecutive loss (10-13-4 for 24 points in 27 GP).
