A pair of Senators defensemen, Jared Cowen and Patrick Wiercioch, will be healthy scratches tonight versus the visiting Canucks, reports the Ottawa Citizen.

Replacing them will be Mark Borowiecki and Eric Gryba.

On 22-year-old Cowen, Sens coach Paul MacLean said simply: “We need him to be a better player.”

Cowen played just 12:34 during last night’s 6-4 victory in Washington. The big blue-liner signed a four-year, $12.4 million extension in September.
