After making him a healthy scratch for four consecutive contests, the New York Rangers just decided to send J.T. Miller to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack on Tuesday, according to Blueshirts United.

Miller, 20, has a single goal and a single assist in 15 games with the Rangers this season. He hasn’t appeared in a game since Nov. 17 and went three contests without a point.

The Rangers likely want to give the young forward more reps. They drafted him 15th overall in the 2011 NHL Draft, so expectations are high.

Miller makes room for Taylor Pyatt, who appears to be nearing a return from concussion issues.

Yes, because Taylor Pyatt and his 1 assist in (and -8) in 16 games would be sooo much better in the lineup.

I get that Miller wasn’t playing great, and that the Rangers have long term plans for him. Its understandable that the they would rather him playing regular minutes in the AHL than 4th line minutes in the NHL. At the same time however, the Rangers are in desperate (and I men desperate) need of offense… and they aren’t going to get it from Pyatt, or Pouliot and Dorsett for that matter. Miller at least has offensive talent, even if he’s struggling at the NHL level so far, and I think they are more likely to get offense from him than any of those guys.

If Sather seems reluctant to make a big trade, he needs to drag the AHL to get as much offense as possible up to the NHL club…. because the Rangers have far too much dead weight that needs to be removed right now.

First, JT Miller is going to gain nothing from playing 8 minutes a game in the NHL at this stage of his career. Sitting upstairs watching can only teach one so much. Send him down where he belongs and get him 15-18 minutes a game like he should be getting right now.
I will admit that Kreiders short stint in the AHL seems to have helped him perform better, but I still see him do some questionable little things away from the puck at times. I am happy to see him , overall, keeping his level of play up and not making as many defensive mistakes.
They can trade the over pursuer Pouliot and over trying DelZ to someone and get some kind of offensive skill back in return. Pyatt is only a fourth line player at best and at least Dorsett stands up to guys a foot taller than him! At least someone stands up! Give him credit for that!
Personally, I think Callahan is still not 100% from either the thumb or the shoulder. He just hasn’t been playing with the hitting and grit that he has had in the past.
Brassard and Hagelin need someone else on that line that can feed them the puck. Pouliot is making that line completely ineffective.
The Tampa Bay game was a strange one. Hank looked bad up high- the Rangers swarmed Bishop after that and could do nothing to get back in at 2-0. Then they just stood around and got skunked by StLouis and left hank out to dry.
Unfortunately, there is really no one in Hartford that will really help the Rangers at this point. I would really like to see DelZ to Buffalo for Moulson. I really think a strong gritty forward who has hands is what they need more than anything else.

Well, Taylor Pyatt and his uselessness are better served as our 13th forward than JT Miller. Miller needs to go to Hartford and figure out what’s going to make him an effective player when he gets his next opportunity with the Rangers.

Sather wouldn’t hesitate to make a big trade if there was one available. History has shown us that. There must not be anybody available that will help this team, or they’re asking for pieces that he’s not willing to give up (I can only imagine teams with goalie issues would love to get their hands on Cam Talbot right now). We can talk all we want about shipping out MDZ and Pouliot, but even though MDZ has some upside, we’re not going to get anything back right now except for another struggling player. Maybe closer to the trade deadline Sather will be able to pull off some kind of Gomez for McDonagh type miracle, but for now we’re stuck.
