Last week, the supposedly upstart Edmonton Oilers left the ice having to explain in great disappointment yet another loss.

What a quick turnaround it’s suddenly been. The Oilers are now officially on a winning streak.

Their latest victory came Thursday, as the Oilers soundly defeated the Florida Panthers 4-1 on home ice for their third straight win. The streak started Saturday, with a come-from-behind win over Calgary on Saturday.

The night before, they were thumped on home ice by the San Jose Sharks in what was their fifth consecutive loss, and 10th loss in their last 11 games.

Jordan Eberle had a pair of goals, Taylor Hall a pair of assists and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins collected a hat trick of helpers in the win over Florida.

“The biggest thing is we’re bearing down on our chances and burying our opportunities when we get them,” said Nugent-Hopkins afterward.

Scottie Upshall scored the lone goal for the Panthers, coming late in the second period.

Prior to his goal, the Oilers had outscored their opponents 14-0 dating back to the third period Saturday against Calgary.

    Here we come, walkin’
    Down the street

We get the funniest looks from
    Ev’ry one we meet

    Hey, hey, we’re the Oilers
And people say we monkey around

    But we’re too busy scoring
    And laying everybody down….

    Good old Oilers.
    Dazzle and flash.

    Out of the Playoffs
    Maybe next year, huh?

Wouldn’t get too excited when you beat two teams considered to be worse than yourself and lose to one of the better teams in the league.

One streak ended. The Oilers finally gave up a goal after scoring 14 straight.

Look out, indeed. They may just be drafting fourth next year.

Since when does winning two games against some of the worst teams constitute a winning streak?

“A hat trick of helpers” ….a playmaker

Did you all see Upshall’s refusal to fight Ference? How different was that from the Emery/Holtby fight? Both Upshall and Holtby didn’t want to fight. The refs were not available to intervene between Emery and Holtby. The NHL is floating the idea of a 10 game suspension for a goalie who crosses the red line. Why wouldn’t they suspend a skater for throwing punches at another skater who doesn’t want to fight?

@joey, things like this happen every week, I had no clue why people thought the Emery fight was a “disgrace”, it was a typically thing that happened. I’ve seen every player from Crosby to Hartnell fight unwilling opponents, Heck I think the only fight semin had, which was a joke, was the same way. Didn’t he just start wailing on a guy who had no idea he was in a fight and the guy turtled? If they bring a 10 game suspension in for goalie fights it will take away one of the rarest things that people love about the game.
