Steve Tambellini is back in the National Hockey League ranks.

The Anaheim Ducks have reportedly hired Tambellini as a part-time professional scout, according to Eric Stephens of the Orange County Register on Wednesday evening.

In April, the Edmonton Oilers fired Tambellini as the team’s general manager, and then promoted Craig MacTavish to the position.

Tambellini served the Oilers’ GM from 2008 to April of 2013.

This guy was a terrible gm, why would he make a better scout?

I was tempted to make a snide remark, but I think today is gonna be a good day so I’ll refrain for now. While he undeniably failed as a GM, that doesn’t mean he can’t be of some use. Part time scout is about as low risk as there is. Being a good scout isn’t a prerequisite to being a good GM. And being a bad GM doesn’t mean he’ll be a bad scout. Would I hire him? Probably not. But I can’t help but think Tambellini was a bit hamstrung by higher level management still hanging around that organization.
