With Mitchell hurt, Wild recall Zucker

The Minnesota Wild have recalled forward Jason Zucker from AHL Iowa.

Zucker, 21, was Iowa’s leading goalscorer at the time of his recall and has already appeared in one NHL contest this season, playing over 13 minutes in a 3-2 loss to Nashville in early October.

This latest recall comes at the expense of Torrey Mitchell, who was hurt during Tuesday’s 6-2 loss to Montreal. Mitchell appeared to injure his left leg after crashing into the boards during a collision with Habs forward Max Pacioretty, and didn’t play the entire third period.

The Wild are back in action this evening against Ottawa, so it’s possible Zucker could draw into the lineup, though head coach Mike Yeo could also elect to dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen.

I like watching Zucker play. I’ve always wondered what they don’t like about him, why he always ends up back in Iowa. He always performs. Hope they bounce back tonight. Last night was…. Uh…. Well, it required a couple extra beers just to get through that second period.

seeing as he is a top 6 guy and as long as Heater is playing in MN, its hard to fit him in. Not saying Heater is on the top 6 anymore but a roster spot is being filled.

Also, Nino / Granlund / Coyle … someone has to be in Iowa. Zucker out of them, maybe needs the most ice time in the AHL to get his two way game down. His speed is fantastic and I love what he brings on offense, but he needs to bring it in both zones to play for Yeo.

Hopefully he works hard and stays up but I bet he gets sent back down within a few games.

I think he will eventually be a 30 goal scorer but will take time to develop.

Let’s hope he actually remembers to play some defense this time around. And avoids the cheap shots he’s been throwing in Iowa. One playoff goal and a couple pretty, fast goals last year don’t exactly make up for the crazy inconsistency. I was pretty disappointed with him this preseason, hope he’s turned it around.
