Leafs recall Smith from AHL; Liles sent down

Trevor Smith

Nazem Kadri’s three-game suspension is Trevor Smith’s opportunity. The Maple Leafs have called up the 28-year-old forward from AHL Toronto ahead of tonight’s contest in Buffalo.

Smith has already played nine times for the Leafs this season, scoring once with no assists. But he’s been a sensation with the Marlies, piling up 12 points (4G, 8A) in just seven games.

In addition to Kadri’s absence, the Leafs will be without injured centers Tyler Bozak and Dave Bolland versus the Sabres tonight. The two teams play again Saturday in Toronto.

The Leafs also assigned d-man John-Michael Liles to the Marlies.
