Bryzgalov to make AHL debut tonight in Oklahoma City

Ilya Bryzgalov will play his first professional hockey game since April 25 when he tends goal tonight for the Oklahoma City Barons versus Abbotsford.

The Barons are the Edmonton Oilers’ AHL affiliate. Bryzgalov, of course, signed with the Oilers last week.

Now, granted, even if the 33-year-old can regain the form he displayed a few seasons ago with the Phoenix Coyotes, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to rescue his latest NHL team. The Oilers are all but out of the playoff race in the Western Conference. These days, goaltending is the least of their problems.

But for Bryzgalov, it offers a “good opportunity” to salvage a career that came completely off the rails after signing a big contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the summer of 2011.

By the way, tonight is Barons Night with $2 beer and $1 hot dogs from 6-8 p.m. If you happen to be in Oklahoma City, you should totally go.

OK… the visual of Ilya Bryzgalov and any person from Oklahoma trying to communicate with each other is hilarious to me.

$2 beer and dollar dogs?……Is Bryz playing or standing at the concession line?

Best of luck to the Bryzly bear! Wish we had signed him here in Phoenix instead of giving Smitty the dumbest contract on our books.

visual…would it not be an audible…?

like totally go…as opposed to like only partially go?

i don’t think Oilers are out of anything just yet. ilya may well provide the charge the so-called young guns need

mid november and the cliche hounds are like totally dissing on the easier prey…like reeeeeally

colorado appear to be flattening-out, ditto ducks and sharks

canucks are as fragile as loooooo’s five hole forward giraffe belly flop yielding five feet of exposed twine eight times a game, and flames are the laughing stock of anyone who’s heard of a backwater like calgary

talk predictions in mid february, they may stick
