There’s been no official word on the severity of Jonathan Quick‘s lower-body injury, but the Kings aren’t taking any chances.

On Wednesday, the club recalled Martin Jones from AHL Manchester and will fly Jones immediately to New York, where he’ll join the Kings for Thursday’s game against the Islanders.

Jones, 23, has played very well for the Monarchs this season, posting a 9-2-2- record with a 2.24 GAA and .927 save percentage. A former standout with WHL Calgary, Jones represented Canada at the 2010 World Juniors in Saskatchewan, splitting time with current Blues prospect Jake Allen.

Quick was believed to be headed back to Los Angeles for medical evaluation, rather than have him checked out on the road. The Kings have three games left on their current Eastern swing — Thursday against the Islanders, Friday against the Devils and Sunday against the Rangers — before returning to L.A. for a date against the Lightning on Tuesday, Nov. 19.

Update 2:25 p.m. ET

Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said Quick’s injury is “either hamstring or groin-related,” as per LA Kings Insider. What’s more, Sutter confirmed the club would be sending Quick back to Los Angeles, meaning it’s unlikely he’ll play any of the remaining games on this trip.

Update 4;35 p.m. ET

Quick has addressed his injury situation via Twitter:

Children children. ibieniid and muckleflugga, please go to your respective corners. Now, can we all please get back to concentrating on the fact that the Kings without Quick are likely to sink FAST down the standings.

would it have been hilarious if another ex-Flyer, Bryzgalov, ended up a King? and more hilarious had he ended up the starter? yeah, you guys shudder, but if this is a serious injury, who might they have been looking at? surely not Scrivens as the months-long daily starter.

    • guitarhunterdude - Nov 13, 2013 at 4:02 PM

Not really. Quick’s been mediocre to average so far this year and the Kings have done alright. I have faith that Scrivens can put up similar numbers until Quick’s healthy again.

Notwithstanding the ‘immaturity & childishness’ of the various posters above, the bottom line friends is that our enterprise will ‘not’ be slowed for even a second by Quick’s ‘unfortunate’ departure from the line. On the contrary, comrade Scrivens will now be afforded with the opportunity to ‘prove his mettle’ … and as God is my witness, ‘prove it’ he’ll do ! :) You see, the thing which most hockey fans don’t understand about us LA Kings is that we as a team ‘thrive’ on adversity and ill-advised contempt … the hotter it gets for us in the kitchen, the more we ‘bare our teeth’ ! So look for us to completely ‘annihilate’ the Islanders tomorrow night and to subsequently leave these idiots like Wang and Tavares scratching their stupid heads !

GO KINGS GO !!! … TODAY, TOMORROW AND FOREVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps: get well Quickie soon eh ? … and why don’t you go eat some ‘S’ Tavares !

More of your “Verbal Diarrhea”, Comrade Blomfeld, you are an embarrassment to the Province of BC.

Hey Einstein … here’s a few things for you to chew on …

        1) Tavares was an excellent group who produced ‘numerous’ likeable songs !

        2) the Blackhawks will not be able to defend their ‘asterisk-laden’ SC championship !

        3) the ‘heart’ of the Vancouver disco scene back in ’78 was on Hornby Street !

        4) you, Wang and Booth are all ‘disingenuous’ parasites !
