Almost everything that could wrong did in the case of the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday. Conversely, the L.A. Kings solved Roberto Luongo early and often, on their way to a blowout 5-1 victory.

Luongo was pulled in the second period, after allowing four goals on 18 shots. The Kings scored three times in two minutes and 33 seconds to increase their lead from one goal to four, ending Luongo’s night.

Eddie Lack entered the game in relief of Luongo. Lack will also start Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks, as per Ben Kuzma of The Province newspaper.

“I don’t think he was sharp, but he’s played very well for us,” said Canucks head coach John Tortorella of the decision to pull Luongo.

“But more to my mind, when the fourth one goes in, Eddie hasn’t played, he’s going to play tomorrow and it gave him some time.”

Jordan Nolan opened the scoring, thanks to a spectacular set up from Linden Vey. The Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, were mostly kept on the bench in the third period.

They each had just two shifts in the final 20 minutes of play.

At the other end, Jonathan Quick was spectacular.

The Canucks had several chances in the first period, including a point-blank opportunity for Alex Burrows, but couldn’t beat Quick.

The Canucks finish off their four-game road trip through the Pacific Division on Sunday, when they face the Anaheim Ducks.

I predicated the Canucks would miss the playoffs behind San Jose, LA, Anaheim, and Phoenix and so far they haven’t shown a whole lot to dissuade me.

    Then again, it’s November.

5 goals is not the norm for the Kings. If this continues, Vancouver is not gonna make the playoffs.

    no siree…

i think the canucks are fine and like hawks, finding that lethal speed skill game, free of much of the diving

ducks and sharks will blowout, and it’ll come down to these two…

sure canucks lost, but with some esrly finish, msy have run the kings out of their own barn

i’m not seeing any of that old chicken hockey. they’re looking more than willing to engage the big boys, not because there told but because they want to. i like the canucks again

a canucks team with resolve will win the cup, providing they don’t meet the wings
