Rosehill on Giroux: ‘I’d expect him to start rolling now’

Strange thing happened Saturday: Claude Giroux scored. A goal. Yeah. It finally happened.

It was the first of the season for the talented center, despite this being his 16th game. It counted as the game winner, too, as the Flyers downed the struggling Edmonton Oilers.

Perhaps this will be the slump-buster. His teammates knew how important a goal it was for Giroux, who many believed to be in the running for Canada’s men’s Olympic hockey team.

“It was big,” Flyers forward Jay Rosehill said, as per CSN Philadelphia.

“The bench was really happy, guys were all pumped up, he had a big smile on his face. A guy like him isn’t going to be scoreless very often, and to get one like that, a nice goal like that we needed was big.

“So I’d expect him to start rolling now.”

Hmmm. I hope so. Time will tell.

  2. broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 12:34 AM

The Flyers will weather the storm and start rolling. I can’t rule out another trade though.

  3. 950003cups - Nov 10, 2013 at 1:57 AM

Since when did Rosehill become the man?

    • claudegirwho - Nov 10, 2013 at 10:05 AM

      When giroux became “the man”

  4. pitpenguinsrulez - Nov 10, 2013 at 2:13 AM

So he scores against a crappy team and now people think Giroux-O-Mania will run wild? Lol that’s a good one…let me laugh some more at that thought!

    • isithockeyseasonyet - Nov 10, 2013 at 4:24 AM

      Penguin’s’ is spelled w an S…you are a G A F… Check the mirror

    • blackandorangeforlife - Nov 10, 2013 at 9:35 AM

Well we would cheer for Malkin…But he still cant score…That regular season trophy is starting to fade!

    • blackandorangeforlife - Nov 10, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Also what was the last team Malkin did score against?…The very same Oilers….If Giroux is so bad because of his slump what does it say about a 2 time Art Ross winner?…..Dont worry maybe he can get another empty netter against the Flyers on Wednesday……Maybe!

      • blackandorangeforlife - Nov 10, 2013 at 1:14 PM

In fact Malkin only has 1 even strength goal in his last 20 games….Along with 1 on the PP and the other an empty netter…..Jay Rosehill has more even strength goals in his last 20 games then Malkin does!

  5. President Charles Logan - Nov 10, 2013 at 2:14 AM

PCL to Rosehill …………………” start packing for Adirondack “

  6. lordfletcher - Nov 10, 2013 at 3:07 AM

I don’t see Philly making the playoffs but my o my is the east weak and anything can happen.

Washington and Pittsburgh will more than likely walk away with the Metro, maybe NYR slides in … but the wild cards will be for grabs. Will the Flyers be able to beat out Montreal, Ottawa and NYR, I doubt it.

Best of luck, its a long season.

    • isithockeyseasonyet - Nov 10, 2013 at 4:25 AM

Flyer fan here, agree in full w your insight unfortunately (for me)

  7. crazemastercraze - Nov 10, 2013 at 7:44 AM

Guys, you played THE OILERS! Hate to break the illusion. You’ll understand what I mean once you play your next game against a team that’s over.500. Thank you.

    • phillyphanatic77 - Nov 10, 2013 at 9:04 AM

Yeah and Giroux played like a man possessed. He had about 5 key chances that could’ve gone in… it was the best game he’s played since game 6 against the Pens IMO. He looked like the star Giroux not the struggling G and that bodes well.

As soon as he scored you could see the elation on the bench (and of course the captain), it was like a weight had been lifted off the entire team. They played loose, aggressive, but still responsible hockey… which is a winning combo. Giroux has the ability, Vinny and Schenn are rolling, the D is playing solidly, and Mason has been lights out; this is a team that can turn it around. And don’t give me “it was the Oilers” bs, it’s the NHL, best league in the world, and the Oilers have plenty of talent. The Sabres could beat the Sharks tomorrow, it’s a league of parity. They have the goaltending, they have have depth on defense, abd their dynamic forwards are finally getting it together. So keep the false sense of security while the rest of the division sneaks up on your flawed Pens squad.

      • esracerx46 - Nov 10, 2013 at 9:39 AM

The d is playing solidly? What team have you been watching?

      • ibieiniid - Nov 10, 2013 at 11:14 AM

How about every game but the caps game? This flyers defense has been on their sh** this year. Streit and Grossmann have been beastly.

      • phillyphanatic77 - Nov 10, 2013 at 1:44 PM

Yeah and take out the Caps game and the Flyers have allowed 33 goals in 15 games… not too shabby. The Caps game was an atrocity but otherwise they’ve been solid. Grossmann has been a beast. There have been mistakes but every defender does. It’s been the offense that’s been the issue and that’s getting worked out finally.

  8. antmel30 - Nov 10, 2013 at 8:58 AM

I love how Pitt fans have enjoyed easiest schedule in league and are bragging they are in first place. Then say we only play who is on the schedule. Then the hypocrisy comes out when flyers beat bad team. Pitt has been loosing to the top teams while struggling to score and malkin has 10 gm goalless drought I would say time to worry about your own team. In a week or two Washington or rangers will have taken first overall.

    • drone501 - Nov 10, 2013 at 6:33 PM

naw, theyll win the metro and probably make the sc final. don”t get your panties all twisted.

  9. ibieiniid - Nov 10, 2013 at 9:37 AM

the PHT pens fans continue to prove their childishness. why don’t you guys keep patrolling stories for any sort of negative mention of the pens and cry about that?

    • blackandorangeforlife - Nov 10, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Because those stories dont exist……Nothing about last nights loss to the Blues……Nothing about the loss to the Rangers……In fact i dont think i have seen one story this season after a Pens loss

      • ibieiniid - Nov 10, 2013 at 11:12 AM

Please go look at all the Crosbys on the 5 games to watch this weekend post. Lmao its quite priceless

      • drone501 - Nov 10, 2013 at 6:37 PM

they played a decent game against a very good team on the road. may take flyers weeks to get it together, if then. we don’t crawl into a cave when the pens lose. we figure they will come back stronger, especially when the injured players get back.

  10. broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 10:53 AM

I love how the PHT Pens fans are more concerned with Giroux’s scoring slump than Malikn’s. It speaks volumes to their ignorance.

  11. mcphillthy - Nov 10, 2013 at 11:23 AM

The reason the pens fans aren’t around is because they lost. The band wagon broke down so they all disappeared. Typical Pittsburgh. Oh, and now that you pointed out that their scoring machine Malkin has his own slump they scatter like cockroaches. Kinda funny how that works, huh? Us Philly fans know our team has looked awful but we are still here. That’s what real fans look like.

    • WillIEverSeeACupInMyLife? - Nov 10, 2013 at 11:35 AM

James Neal takes warm-up for Penguins (Updated)

Look at the Pittsburgh post 15 hours ago!!!!. 3 COMMENTS!!!!! They don’t watch the games, they don’t follow the team until they win, they only come to Philadelphia Flyers article and post. I urge all Flyers fans to stay away from Pittsburgh articles just to prove a point.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 7:45 PM

I agree. Personally I haven’t posted on a Pens article all season long and will continue not to do so unless they are playing the Flyers. These Pitty fanboys are so predictable and pathetic.

    • drone501 - Nov 10, 2013 at 9:50 PM

trust me. malkin will score and it will be fun to watch. bet you a case of tastycakes.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 11, 2013 at 12:21 AM

I’m sure he will. Just like watching G rifle that puck past Dubnyk the other night was.

  12. crazemastercraze - Nov 10, 2013 at 1:23 PM

Philly fans: OBSESSED with the Pittsburg Penguins. Their personal deflection pin cushion.

    • blackandorangeforlife - Nov 10, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Is that why there are always a ton of Pens comments on a Flyers article?

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 7:51 PM

Are you referring to Pittsburg, Arkansas? Which is probably the next city your owner will threaten to relocate to when you guys go bankrupt again. If we are OBSESSED as you so eloquently put it, why are you posting on this and every other Flyers thread, fanboy?

      • drone501 - Nov 10, 2013 at 9:51 PM

we love to jack up flyer fans blood pressure.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 11:41 PM

Our blood pressure isn’t up. It just make y’all look like a bunch of pump a$$es.

  13. mp1131211 - Nov 10, 2013 at 1:38 PM

Maybe it’s not a “slump.” This was about their quality of play last year too.

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 7:52 PM

Are you talking about the Hens lack of scoring in the ECF?

      • mp1131211 - Nov 11, 2013 at 6:43 AM

Hahaha…. No. I’m talking about your team.

To be sure, the Penguins suck, too. But they aren’t anything this bad. Lol

  14. President Charles Logan - Nov 10, 2013 at 6:14 PM

As a neutral observer , and not a general fan of either team let me advise at least the Flyers fans here to perhaps back off a little bit on the insults towards the Pens , seeing how your team has only won 5 games so far this season . The fans dont play the games here…. although by judging from a few of your posts, some of ya’ll in an imaginary world seem to think you do (make note stakex (who’s a pens hater and ranger know it all wanna be) and ibieiniid as well.

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 8:01 PM

Maybe you should follow your own advice chucky. The Flyers fans here support the team whether they are winning or losing the Pens fans, not so much. We may have only won 5 games but the East is anybody’s game this early in the season.

      • President Charles Logan - Nov 11, 2013 at 3:10 AM

i fully expect you to back your team 100% broad, but lets face it you guys are not a serious threat.. get real.

      • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 11, 2013 at 12:00 PM

PCL, we weren’t a threat in 2010 either. This squad will pick up the pace eventually. Like I said above the east is wide open and except for TB all the teams are showing inconsistencies.

  15. pjdigler - Nov 10, 2013 at 8:06 PM

and we can end this verbal jousting with a good old 1975!!!!!!,

    • broadstreetbeatdown - Nov 10, 2013 at 11:42 PM

We can end it with a 3 goals…2013. Much more fun!

  16. mattyo99 - Nov 11, 2013 at 1:04 AM

Flyers haters(mostly pitt fans) don’t know the flyers goaltending and D has been playing really good, there offense has been the problem> they were clinching the sticks tight, missings opprotunties, etc.. I think Giroux scoring is the weight off there back, and make excuses that Edmonton sucks, but there in the NHL..teams struggle, pitt, boston, toronto, chicago all will have a bad stretch at some point.. I understand as a pens fan it’s your job to hate the flyers, but don’t talk to soon cause the season is still very young, hopefully Crosby does’nt get a severe concussion again. Or Fluery doesn’t fall apart again…

    • President Charles Logan - Nov 11, 2013 at 1:14 PM

there’s been nothing or nobody on your team thats been playing really good, now cmon lets not reach here you’re on a one game winning streak lol… win 6 or 7 in a row and i might give you some props as they would be deserved.

  17. mattyo99 - Nov 11, 2013 at 3:25 AM

Penguins fans are afraid of the flyers, that’s why they give them so much attention. This is the same team that whooped Pitt in 2012, only difference is a 42yr old Jagr.. Don’t fret, my team is gonna be a threat, more to come… Best rivalary in hockey.. Flyers/penguins

    • President Charles Logan - Nov 11, 2013 at 1:15 PM

what exactly matt are pens fans afraid of? explain .
