Video: Chicago fan steals Pardy’s helmet after he’s hit through glass

Nov 7, 2013, 1:49 AM EST

Adam Pardy had a difficult night.

Not only did his Winnipeg Jets lose, but he had his helmet taken by a fan after the defenseman was hit through the glass in the third period of Wednesday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.

Brandon Bollig caught Pardy with the big hit, dislodging the glass in the corner. As a scrum ensued, Pardy’s helmet was removed from his head by a fan, who put it on his own melon.

“Was it one of the fans? I couldn’t tell. They’re into it. That’s a good thing, I guess,” Pardy said, as per a tweet from Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune.

I don’t know what happened to my stick either. That got lost in the crowd too. A little insult to injury there.”

Not only was Pardy’s helmet taken, but beer dumped on him as well.

“It was tough enough to get put through the glass but then to get a beer thrown on my head, too, was not a good thing,” Pardy said, as per Kuc.

I definitely smelled a little booze for about six minutes.”

A little too much to drink in Chicago.

    • 950003cups - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:39 AM

That dude was piss drunk. You can’t help but laugh because (well aside from the beer being poured) as drunk as he was, the dude didn’t try to attack Pardy. He just put it on his head and stood there.

Can’t wait to read that the drunk is sme sort of multimillionaire who owns a chain of etiquette schools.

      • sunderlanding - Nov 7, 2013 at 1:21 PM

I don’t know if I agree with that 100%. If someone ripped my helmet off of my face and tossed beer on me I’d consider it an attack. Don’t get me wrong this was funny, but those two are douchebags and this is a borderline attack.

  2. nicknyhc - Nov 7, 2013 at 2:30 AM

Pardy should have pulled a Mike Millberry on that drunk.

    • 22yearsagotoday - Nov 7, 2013 at 5:54 PM

Guy was wearing bunny slippers, so it wasn’t worth it.

  3. hockeyflow33 - Nov 7, 2013 at 2:38 AM

That guy should be given free season tickets, what a beaut!

    • skr213 - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:25 AM

Don’t know why the hate on this sentiment – this is the most hilarious fan interaction I’ve ever seen. I’ll take this over those stupid green men any day!!

      • sunderlanding - Nov 7, 2013 at 1:22 PM

Because ripping the helmet off of someones face, and throwing beer on them is an attack. If one stranger did that to another you could press charges.

  4. mattyo99 - Nov 7, 2013 at 3:45 AM

That’s great! Good for that fan, drunk bastard, haha

  5. broadstreetsbaddest88 - Nov 7, 2013 at 3:51 AM

Hahaha that’s gotta be one of the greatest things I’ve seen a fan do. I could not stop laughin when i was watchin the game. Anyone that doesn’t think that’s hilarious has something wrong with them. I was wondering when PHT would put this gem up.

    • hockey412 - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:36 AM

I didn’t think it was funny at all. What a waste of beer. What is that, like $10?

      • blackhawkboy1 - Nov 7, 2013 at 9:46 AM

$10 glass of watered down beer at that. But looking at that guy, he got his moneys worth.

  6. calden99 - Nov 7, 2013 at 7:10 AM

    This is great

  7. raiderufan - Nov 7, 2013 at 7:20 AM

Every good story starts with “Hold my beer…”

    • cofran2004 - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:11 AM

“Hol’ m’beer…. i…i… like ‘is ‘elmet!”

  8. mclovinhockey - Nov 7, 2013 at 7:22 AM

This is hilarious. It’s funny how on every article I read about this, everyone says how if it was a Philly fan they would be considered a classless moron or something but here, they just take it as it is. This is funny (minus the beer being poured on the guy… Poor beer).

    • Lupy Nazty Philthy - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:44 AM

There’s definitely a double standard when it comes to certain teams. If Toronto fans did it they’d fit right in with Philly fans.

Like, last playoffs, one (just one) Toronto fan had a “Toronto Stronger” sign, poking fun at the “Boston Strong” slogan in round 1. The media made that poor guy out to be pro-terrorism… even though it’s just a fan having some fun with a slogan Boston started using for their sports teams… Then Chicago sells “Chicago Stronger” shirts multiple fans in the finals. I was expecting much of the same treatment the media gave the Toronto fan, but all they get a pat on the back for such a clever play on the “Boston Strong” slogan.

Some teams can do no wrong. Some can do no right.

      • 22yearsagotoday - Nov 7, 2013 at 5:56 PM

        NY Mets.

    • chicagobtech - Nov 7, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Philly fan, Chicago fan, Toronto fan, doesn’t matter who you root for. If you’re taking a player’s gear from him during a game, you have no class. Period. Pour anything on a player? Just as bad.

    • skr213 - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:28 AM

Because a Philly fan wouldn’t have just taken the helmet, he’d probably have thrown a punch in too.

  9. muckleflugga - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:02 AM

what the fool doesn’t know is pardy’s been battling one of the most persistent cases of crabs and head lice seen since the aftermath of woodstock…

    blue ointment anyone?

  10. titansbro - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:30 AM

I got a real good chuckle out of this.

  11. dropthepuckeh - Nov 7, 2013 at 8:51 AM

It looked like a woman who dumps the beer on him – gotta love the passion but maybe not one you take home to meet the parents…

    • ibieiniid - Nov 7, 2013 at 9:09 AM

reality is, she probably IS a parent….

    • sabatimus - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:23 AM

It looked like a man who took the helmet. What does sex have to do with this?

  12. mnwildhockey - Nov 7, 2013 at 9:31 AM

    Way to stay classy Chicago

  13. vshehane - Nov 7, 2013 at 10:05 AM

Typical Chicago fan behavior. Good to know they act as trashy in their own house as they do everyone elses.

  14. jasminedonut - Nov 7, 2013 at 10:09 AM

Not really funny, if I was Pardy I would have been really pissed. Pardy is a classy guy I guess.

  15. sabatimus - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:22 AM

Gee, that guy wasn’t inebriated in the slightest. Good to see the usher immediately thumb him out of the arena.

  16. pizzaman77 - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:25 AM

    That’s just awesome all around

  17. northstarnic - Nov 7, 2013 at 11:43 AM

    Grabbing and donning helmet: funny
    Pouring beer: trashy

    • shaundre93 - Nov 7, 2013 at 12:37 PM

Absolutely, that guy swiping the helmet is priceless, and he gave it right back so no harm no foul. That lady took it a little far though, kinda ruined it

  18. classiefreddieblassie - Nov 7, 2013 at 1:45 PM

Pardy should’ve went all Happy Gilmore on them and became the first player in NHL history to try to stab a fan with his skate. And I’m talking about the cougar who threw beer on his head. That is unacceptable. The hammered dude with the helmet was pretty funny tho.

  19. jjohns2 - Nov 7, 2013 at 2:22 PM

That drunken mess of a “fan” is in actuality the owner of O’Hare Honda and Hyundai in Des Plaines, IL. He treats his employees and customers with the same regard as he did that player. Classy gentleman…

    • 22yearsagotoday - Nov 7, 2013 at 5:58 PM

Like the fact you posted at 2:22.

  20. nothanksimdriving123 - Nov 7, 2013 at 4:12 PM

Do either of these idiots realize how lucky they are that Mr Pardy has a ton more impulse control than some NHL players of the past? Or perhaps that he was too distracted by the other players jostling him? If this rather large man had chosen to climb over the boards, as players did more than once a few decades ago, Mr Dumb and Ms Dumber would, well, let’s just say a diaper change would have been called for.

    • 22yearsagotoday - Nov 7, 2013 at 5:59 PM

      Rubber undies.

  21. dewman8810 - Nov 8, 2013 at 1:53 AM

Do the actions of the Hawk’s fans surprise anyone? They are easily in the top 5 when it comes to rudest fans in the league. I’ve been to quite a few games at the United Center and can say I would NEVER take my kids to watch a game there.

Dumping beer on a player is so classless. That fan should have been thrown on the ice and forced to get his teeth knocked out.
