PHT’s Morning Skate takes a look around the world of hockey to see what’s happening and what we’ll be talking about around the NHL world and beyond.

The New Jersey Devils don’t have a first round pick in 2014 as punishment for their initial attempt to sign Ilya Kovalchuk, but for the purposes of determining the draft order, they might still be in the lottery. Whatever pick they end up with in the lottery would be forfeited and every team that finished worse than them would move up one spot. In other words, the Devils might actually end up winning the draft lottery, but still not be able to use that pick. (

Forward Matt Halischuk warned his Winnipeg Jets teammates that they can’t get “too high” after their 4-2 victory over Detroit on Monday. There was a lot for the Jets to like about their performance, but they have to face Chicago less than a week after the Blackhawks handed them a 5-1 defeat. (Winnipeg Sun)

The New York Rangers are trying to decide if they’re better off keeping 20-year-old forward J.T. Miller or sending him down to AHL Hartford where he would get more playing time. (The Bergen Record)

Defensemen Mike Green has never endured this long of a goal scoring drought to start season, but he’s not overly concerned. (CSN Washington)

The New York Islanders’ four-game road trip kicked off last night. Among other things, it’s an opportunity for Thomas Vanek to form closer ties with his new teammates after the Islanders’ acquired him from the Buffalo Sabres. (Newsday)

man, where are some of my comments going lately? did you tighten up your profanity restrictions or something? i hate typing out long comments, they don’t get posted, and i don’t even have a chance to copy/paste what i wrote.

bottom line of what I said, Meszaros over Schenn is a travesty, $4mil player or not. he[ck], even Gustafsson should be ahead of Mesz at this point.

I agree – some of mine have been disappearing as well. Not that it’s a big deal because I add very little to the conversation, but still, it’s sad when I waste way too much time and energy typing something that pretty much everyone disagrees with anyway and then it disappears.

It happens to me all the time too. Maybe I should stop calling these pricks a vagina. But when they complain like women I can’t help it. Waahhh take fighting out of hockey. Vaginas

philly is a perfect example of what happens when stupid GMs start signing stupid contracts to players not worth the money.

Both the Schenn sisters are awful … no way around it.
