Video: Avs raise Foote’s 52 to rafters

Nov 2, 2013, 10:19 PM EDT

The Colorado Avalanche are hoisting Adam Foote’s No. 52 jersey to rafters on Saturday night while Patrick Roy faces the Montreal Canadiens as an NHL head coach for the first time. Quite a night even before the puck drops.

(Max Pacioretty is also returning for Montreal.)

This post will be updated with video of the actual ceremony when/if it becomes available, but in the meantime, here’s a tribute video from the Avs:

The Avalanche Tweeted this photo of his jersey being retired:

52 will be in the footlights, as it were. Congrats!

and then suddenly the nuggets mascot came lifelessly hanging down from the rafters.

Still don’t get why Ray Bourque’s number is retired.

Don’t get me wrong, the 2001 Stanley Cup ceremony may very well be the greatest moment in franchise history but he only played a little over 1 season in Denver.

He’s a Bruin through and through.

I’m convinced that if he wore a lower number than 77 his number wouldn’t be up in the rafters.

Agreed canucks30… I see why it’s retired, but in Colorado?
Foote, Sakic, Forsberg, Roy.. These are 4 of the reasons I loved the Avs… 77 will always be a bruin to me.

Footer – one of the first names I think of when thinking ‘consummate’ hockey player.

Tough, team hockey, very good leadership, not afraid to throw the gloves down… but not defined by it, great sportsmanship.
