Oct 31, 2013, 6:00 PM EDT

Toronto forward Carter Ashton will have a disciplinary hearing on Friday for his hit from behind on Calgary’s Derek Smith on Tuesday, the NHL has announced.

Here’s the hit in question:

Ashton, 22, was given a minor boarding penalty on the play and also received a five-minute major for fighting Calgary’s Shane O’Brien.

As for Smith, he missed no time following the hit and returned to the contest, logging nearly 10 minutes total.

Again, this is one of those hits where Smith’s numbers were very visible and Ashton continued with the hit. Matter of fact, Ashton not only hit him but he pushed him into the boards.

I agree he should get something for this. He is a first time offender, and the player wasn’t hurt. I’m not exactly sure what that translates to, but I’m guessing one or two games.
