The Anaheim Ducks played the majority of the third period with veteran forward Teemu Selanne.

According to the L.A. Times, Selanne suffered what was described as a “large mouth cut” when he took a stick to the face in the third period of Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

As per the Ducks official Twitter account, Selanne lost several teeth and has a swollen jaw as a result of the high stick.

The Ducks, despite losing Selanne, overcame a two-goal deficit to defeat the Flyers 3-2. Anaheim has now improved its record 10-3-0.

I hope they were fake. It would suck to play this long and lose the real ones at this point.

Those teeth were 65 games from retirement!

The Ducks are 10-3-0. Little early to be writing them out of the playoffs! Haha

They were. Darien Hatcher drove his stick into Selannes mouth & removed the four front ones a number of years ago, not remembering what game that was. But then in Jan. of 2010, he was hit in the face again, losing a bunch of teeth & getting a fractured jaw. Crosby’s puck to the face and subsequent broken jaw was eerily like Selannes….

Let’s be honest, he’s one of the oldest guys in the game. How much longer until his teeth start to fall out naturally?

And to think the team actually played the majority of the third period “with” him. Damn!
