Bolts’ Gudas gets ejected for slashing at Panthers bench

Oct 27, 2013, 7:24 PM EDT

Florida Panthers winger Scottie Upshall has been a healthy scratch here and there lately, but hockey fans/lovers of tomfoolery should be glad he played on Friday. If not, someone probably wouldn’t have sprayed Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Radko Gudas with a water bottle, inspiring this outburst (captured in GIF form by The Score’s Thomas Drance):

source:

Gudas, 23, was ejected from Sunday’s contest for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It’s the most recent in an occasional line of water bottle shenanigans, you may remember the hydration-enhancer’s role in some controversy between the Lightning and Nathan Horton and John Tortorella vs. Washington Capitals fans.

Also, note to self: do not pull the old “clown flower spray” trick on Gudas.

Update: Gudas’ Lightning got the last laugh, beating Florida 4-3 via a shootout.

Stupid play, but I see no reason why that caried a Game Misconduct. Even a 10 minute misconduct would have seemed a bit to much, imo.

    Well nobody appreciates gudas’s antics.

Hey James O’lien got the player right. That’s once by my count

I still don’t understand the game misconduct. Unless they are going for attempt to injure?

That game misconduct took us down to only five dmen in our third game in four nights. Matt Carle played over 29 minutes. That blown call didn’t cost us the game but it very well could have.

    That a boy. Go Bolts

They probably went by the fact that if the stick shattered an someone got hit by a piece of it, or the fact what if someone was coming over the boards or had their arm on the boards. The incident was ridiculous and the response was worse.
