Video: Duchene scores another beauty, Avs take first place

Oct 25, 2013, 10:20 PM EDT

It’s easy to explain the Colorado Avalanche’s early success by what’s going right in 2013-14 that didn’t go well last season – especially when it comes to goaltending – but Matt Duchene is the team’s driving force.

Instead of throwing out a bunch of dazzling stats, let’s just watch another highlight reel goal. Here’s his seventh of the season, which came against Carolina on Friday:

Not too shabby. Is Team Canada taking notes?

Update: Duchene scored a second goal tonight and the Avalanche dominated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 to move back into first place in the West and NHL with 18 standings points.

no doubt this kid’s got world-class talent. maybe his numbers will reflect that now that the rest of the team doesn’t suck so much.

That was a sweet little move right there!

His pass to Tanguay for the third goal was almost just as impressive.

Duchene could have been wearing a number 21 on his sweater last nite, and that is saying ALOT!

Same kid that Sacco kept chained up in a dog house…. shaking my head again and again and again.

Roy is getting the best from these kids.

Duchene is one of the most skilled and underrated offensive talents in the NHL. In terms of pure skill and hands, he’s probably behind only Datsyuk and Kane.

This kids confidence has sky rocketed with the line Roy has put together. Yes there is improvement that’s needs to be done and it’s a long season but thank you sakic /Roy for putting this team on the ice. To all you Roy haters, Let’s try not to be so pessimistic

This guy definitely deserves a spot on team Canada, not only of the most skilled forwards in the league, but also probably the fastest skater as well. Don’t they usually want fast skaters for that big open olympic ice?

What a great goal. Against a backup AHL quality goalie.
