Zuccarello will take a seat versus Flyers

Oct 24, 2013, 11:40 AM EDT

Sweden Hockey NY Rangers LA Kings AP

With no points in seven games, Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello will be a healthy scratch tonight versus the Flyers.

New York head coach Alain Vigneault apparently made the call based on the 26-year-old’s lack of production, with tough winger Brandon Mashinter, recently promoted from the AHL, getting the nod in Zuccarello’s place.

The Rangers (2-5-0) are coming off a 4-0 defeat to New Jersey on Saturday. That loss was their third of the season by four or more. All told, they’ve been outscored by 18 goals. Which isn’t very good.

And Taylor Pyatt continues to play. Zucc has not been good and there is no getting around that. But next
to TP, he looks like Rocket Richard.

    Fire Sather!

Sather builds the team, and the coach manages it. As much as I want to see Sather fired myself, this move is in the hands of AV…. not Sather.

Can’t see this guy ever being effective.

watch Norway in the olympics then. he stuck out to me 4 years ago (and apparently to the Rangers too), i really thought he’d find a StLouis or Briere-esque niche on SOME team. i guess that team is just Team Norway, not an NHL one.

Agreed, don’t think the NHL is the league for him based on his size and the level of physicality. Not saying smaller players can’t make it, but they usually require an exceptional level of skill. Can definitely see this guy in the KHL in the near future.

Its a simple fact that the entire team has been lacking offense. Zuccarello hasn’t played awful, he just hasn’t found the net. Not sure why he would sit over Pouliot, or Pyatt, especially considering the Rangers need the speed with Hags, Nash, and Callahan out.

Ohh… it was all Zucc’s fault. Great, problem solved! Go Rangers!

No, it’s not, but they have to start somewhere. A guy here, a guy there.

didn’t see that coming. but guess you have to mix it up when your off to a horrible start

I don’t get the hate for pouliot and pyatt. There job is to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Zucc’s is to put up points. He should be in the top three lines preferably higher for his skill set. Pyatt is doing what he is supposed to and is trying to produce. Injuries do not help. If you look at it as what they are supposed to be doing both pouliot and pyatt are doing rather well. An argument can be made that during these times they have to step up however no one else is either. Where is Stepan who only has secondary assists and Brassard? Everyone is sucking. When healthy and playing in there right roles the players who are getting hate are actually pretty effective. Pouliot has more of an expectation to put up points than Pyatt. Understandable however he is not the answer to the offense that so many people seem to think he should be. Him and Pyatt have played relatively well with pyatt hitting post against the devs and pouliot laying body. Pyatt needs to play more physical but he is playing well for what his role is same with pouliot. Zucc is not.

I am sorry, but I will continue to beat the same drum unless AV pulls a rabbit out of the hat that cam make these guys perform at anywhere near the level they played under Torts. The Rangers should have hired new blood with Mike Haviland. AV needs to be coaching Edmonton with all of their offensive ability, not the Rangers who have grit and determination (when they had a coach who brought those strengths out in them ) and limited offensive skill.
I can’t wait to hear the fans in the Garden next Monday night if they lose the next two tonight and Saturday. I can hear it now. Something like FIRE SLATS! FIRE A.V.! BRING BACK TORTS!

I was not a fan of the firing of Torts. While I agree they are not performing I take issue with how people are pointing fingers at specific players rather than most of the team who are under performing. In a realistic aspect both Pouliot and Pyatt are doing there jobs whose duties are not primarily scoring granted they do need to step up with all the injuries and added ice time they are receiving. However questioning why they are not scratched over zucc whose job it is to put up points is baffling to me. Factor in that Step and Brass have not done much and are really counted upon especially with the injury situation further makes me confused. Also the hate on Boyle who if i’m not mistaken is our best faceoff man and a great pk and I just don’t understand what the issue is specific to those players.
