Video: Own goal catches Bolts’ Bishop off guard

Oct 24, 2013, 10:23 PM EDT

Chicago Blackhawks head coach Joel Quenneville simply said that he isn’t complaining about his team’s deceptively strong record considering their up-and-down play. He probably won’t complain too much about stealing a point via Thursday’s 5-5 goal against the Tampa Bay Lightning, either.

Jonathan Toews gets credit for this goal, yet one might argue that Martin St. Louis and Radko Gudas scored on Ben Bishop:

Like any self-respecting captain, St. Louis scored the game-winner to “redeem” himself, giving the Lightning a 6-5 win in OT. The Lightning have beaten the Blackhawks twice this season, once via a shootout and tonight in OT.

This seems to be happening a lot lately.

Bulin was awful, cost Hawks the game. Hawks outshot Bolts 2 to 1, let in some garbage goals. Terrible.

i’ll bet EMERY is saying….MISS ME NOW?…..AND I WAS CHEAPER ! BOOLIN played badly when he left CHITOWN before…..why bring him back ?

It was Carle that made the unnecessarily quick pass, not St. Louis. Regardless, Gudas needs to handle it and obviously Bishop needs to be putting his blockers down just in case something like that happens.

Fortunately we got the win anyways, and fortunately Chicago isn’t a division rival so we really don’t care if they get a point out of it. Still gave me a heart attack regardless though lol

Yeah that was Matt Carle not Marty. Watch the tape before you report something. Our Captain would never score on his own net. Terrible job James

Tampa Times Forum has been renamed United Center South. Chicago = Sell out in Tampa. Wow

    • letsgolightning - Oct 25, 2013 at 8:34 AM

      Attendance: 18,820 (95.3% full)

It’s not bad, but we had more people at the Penguins (and Panthers!) games. Regardless, it wasn’t a sellout- but I am happy to see the tourists bringing their money into the city.

Funny enough, I checked out the stats on ESPN and it seems the Lightning are a much better draw on the road thus far than the Hawks. To be fair, it is early in the season, but the Bolts are at #3 and Chicago is at #21.

The thing is the majority of those who wear the opposing teams jersey’s in Tampa (or Florida, or Phoenix…) aren’t tourists, they are transplants from the opponents city out for their “big” night when they can break out their old team’s jersey. Many of those same people will go to other Lightning games sporting the Lightning’s colors. But for that one (or two) night(s) per season-out come the old allegiances. And it happens with all of the northern cities that feed transplants to the south.

Agreed sunking1, locals are definitely a major part of it, and as a Lightning fan, it sucks to see.

In Tampa, I use the parking situation to track how many regulars are at the game, compared to those coming for their one-off match. Regulars learn to park in the street where it’s $2 or less to park, whereas the more touristy types will park in the lot on the same street and pay $10-20. Last night saw a lot of empty streets and full pay lots.

LGL, one of the Lightning’s games was in the United Center. A barn that is always above capacity, when you throw the SRO tickets in it’s the biggest house in the NHL. I’d expect any team that plays in Chicago in the first part of the season to have a high “draw” value, even though it’s probably 95-99% Blackhawks fans.

pathetic game from the HAWKS ! BOOOOOLIN WALL was about as useful as a screendoor on a stall in a truckstop restroom. the BOLTS tried to give the game to CHICAGO ….but they refused to take it! HANZUS looked tired and disinterested( retire maybe ?) . bring the kid back and send ZUUUS to the minors to think for a while !

  9. Jackson Scofield - Oct 25, 2013 at 11:30 AM

The Hawks “up-and-down” play has been overstated all season though, we had only trailed for 4 minutes and fifty-seven seconds all season prior to this game, and we had Khabibulin playing this game.

That said, holding on to third period leads is our real problem, but everything else is a bit exaggerated.

It was Matt Carle not Marty. Fix the article your making yourself look bad.
