Report: Oilers won’t have Gagner (jaw) for at least another week

The Edmonton Oilers might just be getting on track – they’re going for their third win in a row against the improving Washington Capitals on Thursday – but they’re not 100 percent just yet. Taylor Hall‘s expected to miss a month, and that’s not the only tough news, as Sam Gagner‘s at least a week away from returning from a broken jaw, Sportsnet’s Mark Spector reports.

Gagner, 24, hasn’t played in 2013-14 yet thanks to that broken jaw from a Zack Kassian high stick, which cost the Vancouver Canucks winger a five-game suspension.

Gagner really solidified himself as a go-to guy for the Oilers last season, scoring 38 points in 48 games, which would have easily been a career-high pace in a full season. Then again, he’s been limited quite a bit by injuries aside from 2012-13, so one might argue this issue isn’t far from ordinary.

It’s crazy how soft and injury prone Edmonton’s young stars are. Has to be so frustrating for Oiler fans.

While I dislike the Oilers and may have called them soft in the past. I don’t think this is the best time to be calling out their toughness. Sam took a vicious stick to the face from a “disturbed person”. I’ve never broken my jaw so I’m not going to pretend to know how painful it is. Going by swelling and displaced teeth, Sam gets a pass from me on this one. And as much as I dislike Taylor Hall and his toddler tantrum antics, I don’t think this is an injury he can nor should attempt to play through.

Soft?? Broken jaw and losing most of your jibs warrants some time off I’d say..

I didnt mean literally mushy, they are so delicate for nhl guys. Always hurt one way or another and It sucks talent like that is on the IR so much of the year.

I know Halloween is a week away. But please stop showing that pic. Freaks me out. Pretty sure Sam isn’t from England so its safe to assume that’s not where his teeth were before Kassian. Now I know why Mike Yeo called Brodin’s broken jaw gruesome.
