Video: Brodie scores with 30 seconds remaining to give Flames the win

Oct 22, 2013, 1:46 AM EST

It was a special teams battle between the Calgary Flames and the L.A. Kings on Monday night.

And the Flames won by a final score of 3-2, thanks to a power play goal from defenseman T.J. Brodie with 30 seconds remaining in regulation. Brodie hammered home a loose puck that had bounced out to him at the point.

It counted as his first of the season. Good timing.

The Flames scored all three of their goals with the man advantage, while the Kings scored once short-handed and on the power play.

Meanwhile, Flames rookie Sean Monahan, the team’s first-round pick, sixth overall, in this year’s draft, scored again.

He has six goals now, in just eight games. Six goals is quite the accomplishment. But eight games is really the key number.

The Flames have the option of sending Monahan, now 19 years of age, back to junior once he hits nine NHL games, which would not burn a year of his entry-level contract.
