The Columbus Blue Jackets edged the Vancouver Canucks 3-1 on Sunday to end a four-game losing streak thanks to great goaltending, but it wasn’t because of Sergei Bobrovsky.

Instead, Curtis McElhinney was the one standing on his head, as the 30-year-old won his first NHL contest since 2011-12 by making 37 out of 38 saves. It was a battle of backups, as Eddie Lack took the loss, stopping 26 out of 28 shots.

Marian Gaborik opened the scoring while R.J. Umberger and Ryan Johansen owned the third period with a goal and an assist each (Umberger got the game-winner, Johansen scored into an empty-net). Henrik Sedin was Vancouver’s lone goal scorer.

The Blue Jackets improve to 3-5-0 (six points) while the Canucks fall to 5-4-1 (11 points) on the 2013-14 season.

Should have been a shut out. At the arena and in replays there was nothing seen that showed the puck going into the net outside of the goalie being pushed into the net. I’m glad they won but that was a terrible groups of refs.

COULD THE SEDINS BE WITCHES ?

With Halloween fast approaching and the Vancouver Canucks now finally waking up to the ‘new’ reality of the Pacific Division (ie: NHL’s most powerful division bar none), the question still remains as to why 99.9% of Canuckle Nation can’t tell one Sedin brother from the other, even if their lives depended on it ? I don’t understand this and I suspect that I likely never will, sad as that may be :(
