The Buffalo Sabres swapped 2013 first-round picks on Saturday, sending Rasmus Ristolainen (eighth overall) down to the AHL in favor of Nikita Zadorov (16th)

Both are defensemen.

It’s unclear if Zadorov will make the starting lineup for tonight’s home game against the Colorado Avalanche, but PHT’s Joe Yerdon reports that Zemgus Girgensons is shaking off a recent puck to the face to play.

“[Healing] was quick,” Girgensons said. “The day after the eye was totally shut, but now it’s perfect.”

I thought 18 yr olds were ineligible to go to the AHL. Thought it was NHL or back to Europe/Junior?

That is a CHL (OHL, QMJHL, WHL) agreement with the AHL. It doesn’t apply to U20s who played elsewhere.
