Sharks forward Adam Burish has been placed on injured reserve with a back injury that will require surgery.

Per CSN Bay Area, the 30-year-old will be out “an extended period of time.” He was apparently hurt in the Sharks’ preseason opener on Sep. 16.

Burish had one goal, two assists and 65 hits for the Sharks in 2013.

Yesterday, the Sharks recalled forward Bracken Kearns from AHL Worcester.

I think the amount of injury adversity that the Sharks have had to overcome is being overlooked with how great they’re playing. Look at all the folks who have been out: Stuart (injury then a suspension), Torres, Burish, Havlat. That’s a whole lot of salary cap right there and the Sharks are killing it even without these guys. That’s testament to both how great this team is currently playing and to the depth of their young talent (who’ve had to step up).

Burish and Havlat are irrelevant, there are more teams with a lot worse injury situation.
