Video: Milbury, Roenick say it’s time for Kaleta to change

Oct 15, 2013, 11:25 PM EDT

The NHL handed Buffalo Sabres pest Patrick Kaleta a stern punishment in the form of a 10-game suspension for his hit from behind on Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson.

But, as Brendan Shanahan even notes, much of the motivation for that punishment came from Kaleta’s history of questionable behavior. Mike Milbury and Jeremy Roenick agree that it’s time for Kaleta, 27, to clean up his act, as they discuss in the video below:

If he “changes his ways” he’s not an NHL player. Matt Cooke can at least play.

      Debatable, hahaha.

I like to hear that debate I watched him play consistent 2 way winning hockey for 5 years and watched him lift the Stanley cup as a member of the best 2 way checking/scoring 3rd line in hockey. Hes done some stupid stuff in the past but time to let it go…he has about as many penalty minutes as datsyuk in the last 3 years and produces like a good 3rd liner should. So what do you have to say?

That’s funny coming from a guy who beat up a fan with a shoe! lol!

IMO, they’re being too nice by implying that Kaleta in someway could be a help to the Sabres.

I don’t see it. He’s not that tough, he doesn’t produce anything offensively, and he’s a liability for taking dumb penalties. Sabres will be a better team for the 10 games he’s gone.

Guys like this have no place in the game at any level

I’m a Buffalo fan, if the report that Regier is going to be let go is true maybe the new GM will get rid of Kaleta. Lets hope so.

In his defense he is a good PK’er and he is tougher then some are giving him credit for as long as he stays in the middleweight class. He did score 10 goals in a season but when all is said and done he has to go.

I had not heard anything about Darcy the Dinosaur being let go. Please don’t tease me like that if it is not a solid report. That would not be very nice.
      Fire the dumb ass.

really funny listening to Roenick lecture people on cheap shots. yes he could score. but he took every opportunity to slash, elbow, board … lotsa stuff that would get him suspended today.
    kettle … black.

Buffalo seemed to overcompensate after Ryan Miller was run over by Lucic, and I can understand wanting to get tougher so that you don’t get pushed around, but signing goons like John Scott and keeping Kaleta around is like hiring the school bully to noogie everyone who took your lunch money while at the same timenot addressing your primary need; playmakers and goal scorers. There are some talented kids coming through the pipeline, but without the right kind of leadership, they won’t develop into winners.
